Crystal City Transit Update – 18th Street near the CC Metro Station

18th Street just east of Eads has shifted from the outside lane to the inside lane. Rough approach from the west and goes to two lanes just east of the Route 1 overpass.

They are still working on the new section, so be careful as you ride through.

That asphalt job is one of the worst I’ve ridden. I sure hope it is a temporary surface.

Although if it is in fact up to the standard to which NPS holds trail paving contractors, that would explain a lot about the MVT.

You’ll note how much smoother the new pavement on the adjacent GW Parkway is.

I am pretty confident that it is a temporary surface. The contractor was out this morning working on this section of the trail. There still appears to be a lot of work to be done before they leave this site. My guess is that the contractor reopened this section of trail, even though they aren’t finished, so that users of the trail could avoid the mulch detour.
