Anyone do custis today? I want to go back to my skinny road bad.
Btw, did WOD from Reston to weenie beenie, all good for road. Just a couple spots here and there, not enough to deter.Custis was squeaky clean from EFC to Spout Run!

Ditto. I round the Arlington loop. Custis, MVT, four mile run, and W&OD all clear. There are a few soggy spots on the Custis that might be sloppy in the morning tomorrow but it shouldn’t be bad.

ParticipantCustis was totally clear as were all its overpasses. There were little clumps of ice on the TR Trollheim wooden walkway and at noon everything there was pretty damp and may refreeze tonight. Or this afternoon’s sun and temperatures may have finished the job.

ParticipantTR Troll was nice and dry, as was the entirety of the Custis. Made for a speedy ride to work this morning!

ParticipantWOD from Hunter Mill to the RTC has a couple of icy segments. Passable, but definitely sketchy.

ParticipantWooden bridge to Columbia Island from the Pentagon was dry and clear as was Columbia Island this morning. Didn’t encounter any ice to L’Enfant Plaza.

ParticipantAsking for a report – has anyone noticed any iciness on the trails this morning other than the obvious spots?
Hope to leave for Hump Day Coffee Club shortly.December 18, 2013 at 12:27 pm #988830dbb
ParticipantMVT from Crystal City Connector to 14th Street Bridge was fine. Neighborhood streets in Crystal City were fine as well. Lower elevation likely resulted in slightly warmer conditions. The Alps of Arlington may be worse.

Hope to leave for Hump Day Coffee Club shortly.Icier than you may think. Took a nice fall on my face this morning coming around a simple turn before the underpass past Giant on Four mile. However, prior to the fall, I was not attending to any ice. Afterwards, I was more attentive and all was well.

ParticipantCustis was really sketchy this morning. I mean, it was generally fine as long as you were going in a straight line, but my ride definitely required caution, particularly on 23s. Initially I thought “oh, it’s probably just wet” but my tires never got wet, so….

ParticipantLow and Slow may be the best advice for the morning.
WOD>Custis- nice thin glaze of ice (that is probably melted by now) Downtown is fine.
Roads in Falls Church were a little spotty, some ice in the corners.

Ouch. Was a much slower than usual ride for me. Could hear the crunching of tiny ice particles the whole way. (WOD & FMR to Crystal City). Was glad when I finally got to work…wait what did I just say?

ParticipantThe bleeping bleep DDOT didn’t grade PA Ave properly when they repaved, and now instead of water pooling in the gutters, it pools in the cycletrack. It’s not too bad out there today – a bit slushy, and you should be careful, but 2-3 degrees colder and it’s going to be covered in sheets of ice.

ParticipantWhat’s the story on the W&OD from say, Gallows west out to Ashburn?

ParticipantRock Creek Trail between Randolph Rd. and Veirs Mill in Montgomery County is clear of leaves, ice-free, and beautiful, even in the shade and on bridges. The Matthew Henson Trail from the Connecticut Ave. underpass to Veirs Mill, also in Mo. Co., is icy, snowy, and ugly for skinny tires (on the 4 wood bridges). Making things worse, the entrance to the Connecticut Ave underpass is torn up for construction and not marked very well–a surprise in the dark).
