I get the sense that the majority prefer an out and back so we’ll go with that.
From my last count, about a dozen voiced interest; if you are a go, please PM me so I can get a final head count and I’ll reply with my cell number.
Departure Time: 8am
Will depart from the Starbucks at 1200 New Jersey Ave SE, Washington, DC 20590 (located in the northwest corner of the US Department of Transportation Building; catty corner from the Navy Yard Metro Station entrance)
Barring any gross plotting errors on my part or revelations a particular road or segment is no bueno due to bridge outages, construction, etc; this is the planned route. It’s 86 total miles; anticipate about 4hrs to get there; lunch at historic Middleton Tavernand then 4 hours or so to return and end in front of Bluejacket.
Currently, the forecast calls for temp’s Sunday over 90 and scattered Thunderstorms are in the forecast. Will keep an eye on the weather and adjust plans if the forecast deteriorates, but wanted everyone to be aware & prepared. We will stop as needed for water, etc but please bring plenty to start.
Any questions, please don’t hesitate to shoot me a message and I look forward to seeing everyone Sunday!
Awesome! I am 99.9% in! I just need to tell my husband that I’m riding a century on Sunday.

So it seems the smallest sovereign country in the world (by both population and land) is Vatican City. And while I can’t find data on beer, they are second in the world in per capita wine consumption! No word as to whether transubstantiation inhibits inebriation.

ParticipantWell, it turns out that family is indeed going to be in town this weekend, so I unfortunately cannot join the ride. Stay hydrated, everyone, it’s gonna be a hot one!

ParticipantSorry, I’m out. Too hot and humid for me. Have fun and stay hydrated!
Based on conversations at HDCC, it sounds like there are at least a few other people who can’t make it this Sunday but would be interested in riding to Annapolis another day. I’ll try to organize another Annapolis ride in early fall, when the weather will hopefully be cooler.

Oooooh yeah…forgot about the watermelon. It is taking up a not insignificant amount of space in our fridge.

I think the weather may also do me in if the plan is 90 miles. I’ll probably just do my own slightly shorter ride down the W&OD Sunday. I’m definitely interested in a fall ride though–I really want to try this route out!

ParticipantI’m iffy based on the temperature. I’ve had some overheating issues the last month and I don’t want to wreck the ride by you’s guys having to call an ambulance for me.

ParticipantHey folks,
Based on the weather forecast, I’m leaning towards rolling the ride to the 30th. I don’t want to put anyone into a bad situation in an unfamiliar geographic area. The long range forecast for the 30th has a higher chance of rain, however both the temp and the humidity should be lower.

Participant*whew* Glad I saw the potential switch-up before I set my plans for the weekend. I’m still willing to ride on Sunday if it’s still happening (part of training for me is training in all possible ride-day conditions). Otherwise I can do the 30th.
That said, I need to know which it is by this evening. Thanks in advance! 😮

ParticipantI’ll ride this weekend if anyone’s interested. I’ll ride if no one’s interested too but it might be a different ride.

Put some gravel tires on your bike and come out for the “Gravel Edition” of the Women’s Rapha 100k ride! We are riding ~64 miles in Loudoun County with plenty of refreshment stops. It will be cooler out there, but probably not by much. I am routing out bail out points now for those that think the heat might be too much for the whole metric century.
(Sorry guys, this is a women’s only ride!) We are meeting at 8:30 at Rust Library in Leesburg. I can send you additional details if you are interested. 😎

I am highly interested in such a ride the next time it’s co-ed. Also, if there is anyone who’d like to do your ride but can’t because they don’t have a gravel bike or decent tires, I’ve got spares!

I’m going to officially bail on the 23rd. Current weather forecast calls for brutal, so I’m keeping the biking confined to known water sources, emergency A/C and bail outs.

Officially, the plan is rolled to the 30th.
Unofficially, I’ll be riding something long distance on the 23rd, but not sure what yet.

If you’re looking for ideas, the Washington Post is recommending biking the C&O to check out the giant sunflowers in MD which will apparently hit peak bloom this weekend…I think I mapped it out to be ~25-30 miles from Georgetown, longer if you start further out of course
