Hmmm… Looking at the map it seems likely (although not explicitly stated, but who really expects Secret Service to pay attention to bike facilities) that the 15th Street cycletrack from Treasury to the Penn Ave turn will be closed next Tuesday, 8/5, from 2PM until 11PM.

So, what’s the best detour for the 15th Street CycleTrack when the White House grounds are closed, like this morning?

Going southbound, it seems like just turning left on H, then right on 15th would do the trick, but not sure for northbound?

I’m thinking sidewalk to H St, turn left, sidewalk to Vermont, and pick up the track again just outside of Lafayette Park? Carefully yielding the right of way to pedestrians, of course (and acknowledging that this is in the downtown business district where riding on the sidewalk is not permitted).

Legally, I think you’d have to cross 15th just north of the Treasury, then ride on the street north two blocks to I, turn left, then pick up the cycle track again at Vermont. But that’s a lot of traffic, and a tricky left turn.

Absolutely no blockages or anything amiss coming from the Pentagon to L’Enfant Plaza (next to DOE) via Case Bridge. Absolutely quiet and no security in sight.

I saw a bunch of extra closures not on the list this morning while biking in, most notably 17th Street near the White House and I think G west of 17th.
