ParticipantNext time we need people stationed at each stop sign, yelling at them to put a foot down.

ParticipantWouldn’t cross bikes be more suited to police work?

10mph on the flat? I think I could do that on the Bullitt.

I was thinking the same thing. I average 13-15mph on my way home from work and that’s with a couple hundred feet of elevation change, including one nearly 10% gradient hill and I’m not in that good of shape imo. They should have to do something like 50 states.

ParticipantDid I hear you ask them if you got a speeding ticket?
As for the speed, you also have to consider that they are riding heavy mountain bikes. The upright riding position is even slower in the wind at Hains Point. 10 mph isn’t exactly fast, but it might be a decent challenge on those bikes on that route. It’s been a while since I’ve ridden my MTB at HP, but I do remember not being able to ride that fast. Much slower than on my tri bike.

I’d be willing to sit in the bucket, drink beer and offer encouragement. Kind of like the coxswain in a shell! Let me know when.

So I came up on the Ohio Drive / Buckeye Drive intersection (on the river side) and they were approaching from the opposite direction, just finishing their lap. In unison, they all lifted their hands to indicate a right turn and then…… BLEW THROUGH THE STOP SIGN. All 7 of ’em.
Somebody brewed a rich cup of irony this morning.

It appeared there may have been some three abreast riding as well. Do as I say …

ParticipantI saw them running stop signs too, but at least there was no hypocrisy: Myself and a number of others ran stop signs in front of scads of police (not just trainees) and they paid no attention to us.

ParticipantI rode several Hains loops this winter on my 39lb mtb pulling my 45lb trailer with 30lbs of handcart and other gear on it but I never went that slow. I was trying to seal team ten’s grip on “slowest team” honors in Freezing Saddles, and I succeeded!
I wasn’t wearing a Bullitt proof vest though…

ParticipantSometimes I join up with Capitol Police officers on bikes headed down the Mall in the morning. They blow through reds sometimes. I try to get right behind them and run the reds too – hey, it’s okay, I have a police escort!

ParticipantI, along with another rider, trailed a couple of Capitol Police officers riding two-abreast on 15th Street the other morning. I thought of it as riding in a cyclecade.
