I was just reading up on new the Pentagon City – NYC bus service being provided by Washington Deluxe. According to their website:

What are the rules on baggage?

You are allowed two piece of baggage under the coach 40 lb. maximum each and one small bag to carry on (purse or backpack). The carryon bags should be small enough to fit in the overhead bin. Always keep your medicines and valuables with you. Do not leave them in your stowed baggage. We recommend that you properly tag all bags and place your name, address and phone number on the inside. If a bag is left mistakenly behind and is properly marked, we will return it to you free of charge. Washington Deluxe is not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen goods.

Can I take a bicycle or golf bag?

We do allow them and consider them to be oversize items as long as space is available in the baggage area. The oversize item will count as your one bag allowed under the coach. You’ll be responsible for placing the item in the baggage bin. We will not charge you an additional fee for oversized item provided it is within your limit of one bag under the coach. Washington Deluxe is not responsible for damage to oversize items or items that are not placed in normal luggage or a carrying case.

I’ve never used used this service before. It is unclear from the FAQ whether you can stow a bike and an add’l suitcase under the coach or if your bike is considered “two bags”.

Anyway, thought I’d let people know this service is available.

Adding to this (maybe this thread could become a sticky for bike-on-bus services?), Bolt Bus also allows bikes in the lower storage of the bus. I have used it twice with no issues whatsoever going between DC and NYC.

    From their site: https://www.boltbus.com/faq.aspx

I would add a word of caution, though: there is nothing stopping your bike from bouncing around in the baggage bin, so make sure all breakable parts are protected.

On Bolt Bus, did you just roll your bike on board or did you pack it in a box? Thanks.

Vamoose bus (from Rosslyn to NY) also allows bikes as baggage. You can just roll it into the luggage bin.

I used a bike bag to at least cover all of its sides. It went in one of the lesser-used spaces on top of the wheel well, but it was somewhat isolated from the other luggage. I also sat on the right side of the bus so I could watch it like a hawk when we made the other stops.

Edit: It was roll on board as I was not required to pack it in any way.
