DC Lights $hit-mas Ride – 12/26 5pm @ Washington Monument

You know that weird period of time after Christmas but before New Year’s called $hit-mas that is super anticlimactic, people are kind of around-ish, and holiday lights are still up? Come enjoy a Boxing Day night ride of DC’s holiday lights before they get stashed away for next year. Stops will include Union Station, Capitol Christmas tree, National Christmas tree, fire pit at the Wharf, and a Festivus airing of grievances of 2020, etc. Meet near the entry lodge of Washington monument on the east side 5pm. Please respond back to this thread if you’d like to attend so we don’t violate and mass gathering restrictions.

Rode part of the route today and so far the Christmas trees were amazing! Will not disappoint! Depending on how we’re all feeling re: cold, there are a few shortcuts we can take to hit the hot spots!

I did parts of this ride on Christmas Eve morn and it’s a real winner. The Canadian Embassy Christmas Tree was my personal favorite! The Norwegian Christmas Tree inside Union Station is a bit surreal given the post-apocalyptic atmosphere of the empty great hall. White House and US Capitol turned off their lights that particular evening, but hopefully will have them shining for your ride tonight. Enjoy!

Huge thank you to everyone that came out for the ride tonight. Even though I couldn’t visit my biological family, was so nice seeing some of my bike family; it made my holiday that much better. Got to ride some of DC’s new bike infrastructure- yay! For those of you maybe organizing rides for FS2021, highly recommend the toasty evening bonfire at the Wharf!

Thanks for organizing and leading [mention]SarahBee [/mention] . It was much more pleasant last night than I would’ve predicted based on Christmas’ cold wind and I now know about the bonfire [emoji91] at The Wharf, which was a little bit of heaven before the trek home.
