    From the WJLA article:

“It’s all part of the “D.C. Street Safe” campaign, designed to enforce pedestrian safety at crosswalks as well as snag stop sign violators, speeders, and drivers who block intersections.”

“Police say that one of the goals is to make the streets safer for both cyclists and pedestrians.”

The article includes a Google map overlay, showing the location of gridlock, stop sign, crosswalk and speed cameras. There don’t seem to be any cameras along the Pennsylvania Ave. cycletrack, so cameras won’t be checking for illegal car U-turns there.

I was hoping there would be some cameras along New Hampshire Ave., north of Washington Circle. Especially at the three-way intersection with 22nd & L. Plenty of drivers trying to run over pedestrians in crosswalks there. I almost got run over three times in one week (as a pedestrian, not on a bike), even though I always used the crosswalk, I waited until I had a WALK signal and I checked that there were no drivers running the red light. Even with the precautions, the combination of the bad intersection design and the aggressive nature of many drivers caused many near-misses. I’ve seen other pedestrians nearly plowed over by lead-footed drivers there too.
