ParticipantWhat time did this happen? I passed through there heading west around 8:45 and didn’t see anything. Hope he is OK!

I heard this happen about 200 yards in front of me. A cyclist wearing a Nebraska jersey was heading eastbound on the W&OD and was struck as he crossed Great Falls in the crosswalk by a silver SUV. . . . Is there something I could have done as a cycling advocate to be an accident advocate as well?
Yes, one very important and extremely helpful thing you can do is collect and write down information for the injured cyclist – names and phone numbers of all potential witnesses, plus notes and/or photos of vehicle and license plate.

Sounds like moving on was the right thing to do. I think as long as the 911 has been called, you don’t have any insight as to whose fault it was, and you aren’t the one rendering immediate aid to the victim, by sticking around you’re just an obstacle for the first responders.
Hopefully the cyclist is okay…given the pretty decent sightlines there, it would seem that either he or the driver wasn’t paying attention. But we shouldn’t be surprised if no tickets are issued, no fault is assessed, and the incident shrugged off as merely an “accident”.

ParticipantI would suggest that regardless of whether you need to stay or not, pull you phone/camera out and snap a few pictures (as long as those that need immediate help are getting it). That will memorialize the licence plate, weather, bike/car damage and other conditions. It is possible they will be needed and those more directly involved may not have the presence of mind to get them.
Hang on to the photos and give the cyclist a card so you can transfer the pics if necessary. Post something to the forum that says you have photos.
Log the basics of the accident into the WABA crash tracker.

The tracker seems to assume I am the injured cyclist. Is there a way to submit on behalf of someone else?

I passed by around 7:07, also eastbound. There were 3 police cars blocking Traffic on Great Falls from the right, and one from the left back at the light. The driver had pulled off the road left of the trail, and left of where the cyclist was sitting on the grass, just left of the trail. The cyclist appeared to be filling put an accident report or something, from which I figured he was in decent condition. A fire truck or something similar pulled away as I was approaching.

Let me engage Mark to see if something can be done.

Participanti passed through just before first responders arrived….i guess, as i heard approaching sirens… probably in the 0650 timeframe. there were several guys standing around the cyclist who was lying belly down on the ground and on the fone. didn’t seem to be in horrific pain. the guy i saw was wearing a NAVY cycling jersey. if there weren’t already 4 guys standing around with first responders approaching i would have stayed to offer assistance.
