Custis Trail is clear as of about 6 pm Sunday. The crews clearly did an amazing amount of work.

Just to say it explicitly: Custis is clear and all the signals are working through Rosslyn (including Lee and Lynn).

MVT and TR Bridge are clear, and the roads and signals are all working fine from the Kennedy Center to State Department.

Many thanks to those who made it so.

Kudos to the work crews that cleared the Custis – they even raked a lot of the debris off the trail – smooth ride in this morning to sweet-sweet office AC.

I think what you meant to say is that the Lee and Lynn signals have power. “Working” implies that they are controlling traffic in a safe and orderly manner . . .

I also want to give thanks to the work crews, the Custis was a real mess early Saturday morning and the Sunday morning I just went as far as the work being done just past the Custis/W&OD intersection before turning around and riding the W&OD to Falls Church and then back around to the Westover Farmers Market.

The MVT from 4MRT to Lynn St only had a couple broken branches obstucting a trail lane coming around the airport to Gravelley Point, and another just before the rail bridge. Lots of debris and broken trees, but all off the trail.

The W&OD and 4MRT from Ohio St to the MVT were all clear. Only the traffic light at George Mason was out. Saturday night all the lights along that stretch were still out at 9 pm. The connector trail at Glencarlyn going up to Park St in Arlington Forest was still completely blocked at 7:30 this morning by a large fallen tree.

Lee & W&OD at Falls Church was a 4 way blinker this morning. Not a problem before 7 (actually kind of nice–the wait was very short), but I can’t imagine what it was like later.

CORRECTION: It was NOT a four-way blinker. It was blinking red for traffic coming off I-66, and blinking yellow for traffic on Lee Highway. Thus, motorists coming off the interstate thought they had a four way stop and the folks on Lee Highway thought they could go through, with caution. Luckily when I went through, it was all jammed up and nobody was moving, but that should get changed to a four-way red blinker, pronto.

Well, it’s a four way blinker, just not a four way red. :) I noticed that it was yellow for Lee, but the traffic volume was low enough that it just wasn’t an issue early. (One of the reasons that is such an obnoxious crossing–most mornings you just sit there staring at an empty street waiting for the signal. If they’re going to put in a push-to-cross button, it should have some affect on the signal timing when the traffic volume is low.)

Good god, you rode 203 miles on Saturday then went out biking again on Sunday?! Superhuman.

Just a paltry eight and a half miles, a short and easy recovery ride. Certain things were a little to sore for much more. ;)

At 4:00 p.m., today, the tree was gone. There are still lines down across the connector trail, though. I know one is a telephone line, but I did not take the time to inspect them.
