Crystal City to Wakefield Park area

Trying to help a co-worker who has recently gotten more and more into cycling. She is going to be in Crystal City this weekend, and was hoping to ride home to Burke, near Wakefield Park. I have no clue about that area, so I thought I’d turn to your wise folks. She rides a mountain/hybrid type bike, and likely doesn’t have the highest risk tolerance. A route that is mostly trail, or safer roads would be much appreciated.

It’s a bit longer than my usual route, but is all back streets and controlled crossings at major streets.

Where does she need to go from Wakefield?

Thanks! I’m not totally sure, I think just a little southwest of Wakefield. She rides from home to the park regularly, so she knows how to get home from there, just didn’t know from there to CC.

Or try W&OD all the way to Gallows, through Merrifield, and through neighborhoods to the Cross County Trail, like this route (ignore the beginning part from Vienna). Not all streets, but depending on how wide her tires are, she might get a kick out of the gravel part at the end. Also, the paved portion of the CCT that crosses Little River Turnpike and approaches the beltway is quite lovely.
