ParticipantIs the little food kiosk open in the waterpark at that time? I know they sell coffee.*
Since this is in my backyard I may be shamed/convinced to get my sorry ass out of bed early to join. Not.A.Morning.Person.
Thanks for the great idea and organizing!
*Nope, just googled. They open at 11:00. They sell Egyptian food for anyone interested. https://www.yelp.com/biz/water-park-cafe-arlington-2

Yes… If you don’t attend we will have no choice but to write mean things about you on the internet. The idea was sparked last week during Bike to Work Week as we sat around drinking coffee talking about how great it was to hang out with each other in the morning. I’m also firmly in the not a morning person camp, but drinking a cup of coffee and talking bikes usually makes me amped up and happy for the rest of the day.
If you need more convincing I’ll start pulling out some of the dirty psychological tricks from the days when I raised money professionally: Can we count on you to attend the inaugural Crystal City Coffee Club?

You are shameless Dismal. If the sun makes an appearance, I’ll be there.

ParticipantIs there any likelihood that anyone would still be there 8:30ish so I can go to Cafe Kindred first? I promise to wear my Crystal City kit.

ParticipantWe needed a Tuesday coffee club on this side of town. Thanks for organizing! Eventually, there will also be the option of swinging up to Commonwealth Joe’s at Eads and 12th to fill up the travel mug.

ParticipantWhat an awesome idea
I’ve been wishing there were a coffee club off the MVT for awhile. Once I’m all healed up from surgery in a few weeks I’ll do my best to start coming!
Oh, and there is a Cosi a block south as well for Starbucks haters. Still a chain, but they have good breakfast sandwiches +coffee. They appeared to give free stuff to Crystal City BTWW, so I’m willing to support them for that
.

If enough people show up at and stay for various times that seems possible. I for one hope it will still be going at about 4:30 when I return from work. That way the crystal city wine shop will be open by then. But as we all know open containers in public spaces is illegal, and hiding behind bushes clutching a consecrator doppelbock is antisocial so please nobody do this.

Since my work day doesn’t start till 9:30 I will be able to stick around till 8:45. I’m suspicious of all you early morning folks. It ain’t healthy to get up before 8:00.

Good point About Cosi, Emm. They did support the pit stop last week. Also their square bagels are tasty.
I wish I could take credit for all of the idea, but I think Ian gets most of the credit. There’s so many people that pass right by in the morning that it makes sense.
Hope you recover quickly and that we see you out there soon.

That gives me a great idea for the Crystal City Drinking From A Brown Paper Bag Club. It doesn’t quite have the alliterative power of Crystal City Coffee Club but I can look past that.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: I’m too good for these chain coffee stores, what should I do?
A: Pour that French pressed Sumatran blend into a vacuum thermos and throw it in a bottle holder. If you’re going that direction, Misha’s is about 3 miles away. (It’s still about 3 miles away if you’re not going that direction.)
If I lived out that way, you’d see me riding up with an Americano from Misha’s. But I’ll have to stick with Northside, Chinatown, or Peregrine. /snob

As a natural night owl, I agree. 😎
One side effect of BTWD was discovering that even with my low average MPH I can get to Crystal City in the morning faster than I’d previously thought. I’ll try swinging by on Tuesdays. Might even pick up something at Cosi, though I’ll probably just get it to go as I don’t want to chance the frenetic part of my commute (climb up Louisiana, followed by descent down N. Capitol in traffic) with any food in my stomach.
