    That’s good to know.

A rim brake will eventually wear though a rim. Maintaining good brake pad alignment and keeping brake pad/rim clean will greatly increase the lifetime of a rim. Letting the pads wear until you hear metal on metal will greatly speed the rim’s demise. :p Some rims have wear indicators (a groove or mark in the rim that when worn off indicates time to replace).

Back on topic; I believe the three Park Tool pumps placed on sidewalks in the NoMa district are all broken/gone. It was a good idea. The one at North Cap and H might still be operational. I’ll try to remember to check on that.

Yup. Part of my very expensive winter maintenance is the LBS giving me a sort of insane look, as they pointed to my rims and said they were shot. First time I ever wore out a rim.

Approximately how many miles can I expect to get out of a set of rims with Tektro brakes? I never knew they could wear out.

it’s not the choice of brakes so much as things like “how much abrasive crap is on the rims”. Some people go 10s of thousands of miles, some not. There are a lot of factors, some environmental, some maintenance, some lightness vs durability, some luck.

Note: The pump at the Hess on Little River in Annandale does not work. Fortunately there are other service stations with pumps nearby, but they are not free.
