Good luck to everyone at DCCX today and tomorrow. Here’s where I’m riding instead. :D

If everyone hasn’t yet been convinced by rcannon100 and Sunyata’s proselytizing, let me add my voice (although too late for you to make it to DCCX this year). I was out there both days this past weekend, and had a great time racing and just hanging out. I saw so many people that I’ve met over the past year from the bike DC community, and met some people in person that I’ve only interacted with online here too. There are experienced racers like Sunyata and rcannon100, but also cross noobs like me, PeteD, good and evil Steves all competing. I met BrettL and brclose repping Proteus yesterday, and saw MrTinDC and Emm out there supporting and watching. Drevil was there taking some great photos. You have juniors racing, younger kids rolling around on strider bikes (and maybe doing the lil Belgians). I saw dasgeh and her family rolling deep, and other people from Freezing Saddles and various shops (shout out to Team Bikenetic for letting me squat in their area). It all just made me feel really lucky to have come across this community. Also, I may have seen/talked to you but didn’t drop your name here, in which case my bad (but you can maintain a little more internet privacy).

DCCX was so much fun, and it was so awesome meeting people, that I am now registered for BikeneticX. I am still amazed by how awesome the community is!

I was there — my son was racing the Jr 9/10 category. I shouted to Josh, but I don’t think he heard me. Yeah, that is a great race to spectate — as well as a great race to race.

Although rcannon100 didn’t take any pictures of me Saturday morning, I was there too in pack of men’s 4/5. For a an event that begins with you wondering while waiting to start “why am I here”, to running up stairs, jumping over obstacles and trying to stay upright while completely gassed, and being fully exhausted at the end, it was a lot of fun.

If you are an idiot and want to try Cross, the next best opportunity is Capital Cross at Lake Fairfax Reston. Be warned, Cap Cross has a down hill chute that is not for the faint of heart. Then again, it has a christmas carol band on top of the hill that plays to you as you suffer. No beer allowed. None at all. Nope, you will never see us with beer there. No, that would be against the rules.

Then the next great – but harder to get to – races are Ed Sander put on by NCVC and banished forum member Matt Aune – and of course BikenetiCX out in Haymarket.

All three of those are tremendous parties.

BTW I wasnt always falling down this weekend

I just want to say that this thread makes me SO happy! It was really awesome to see so many folks out at DCCX this past Sunday. And thanks to everyone who cheered for me, I was in a dark place most of my race (drinking all day on Saturday while riding 45+ miles was probably not the best idea the day before a race…) while chasing the cat 2 women (WHY!?). But the best part about this weekend was that I did not have to wash my bike afterwards! 😎

Hope to see some folks out this weekend at Biketoberfest or Tacchino (we should play in the mud!). And REALLY hope to see even more folks out at Red Shedman or Ed Sander next weekend (hoping for a bit drier conditions by then!).

This is it. This is your very last chance to register for Cross. Evar. After this, Yule never here us mention Cross again.

For awesome head-to-head competition, get there early for the 9:00 am race when rcannon100 and I battle it out for 57th place!

Head-to-head-to-head. Will goody-goody outduel evil? See for yourself.
