ParticipantI finally got my act together and registered for Hyattsville CX this Sunday. Who else is racing (or coming out to watch me make a fool of myself)?
Disclaimer: noob race is at 8:15am

I’ll be there at 8:15 (somewhere). We can then heckle Bob Cannon and ask if he is ok when he races at 9:00.

ParticipantI will be there!
I am signed up to race, but it has yet to be determined if that will actually happen (long story). Either way, I will be there and be cheering you guys on!
For those that are cross curious, Hyattsville is a GREAT beginner race. The course is pretty non-technical and relatively flat with one climby single track section in the back. Plus, for those without cars, it is metro accessible! Sign up, race, and have fun. 😎

ParticipantI know that UCI requires tyres to be 33c or less for CX races…….. I’m interested in doing DCCX as a beginner (never done a CX race before) on my Jamis Renegade and likely need different tyres than my Schwalbe Marathon Almotions. Will I need a 33c tyre, or do you know if a fatter tyre would be accepted in the Men’s Cat 4/5 category?

ParticipantUCI rules only apply to UCI races. At DCCX, only certain races are UCI races. Others just fall under USA Cycling. The races at DCCX that are UCI are marked as UCI – they are the elite races.
You are good to go.
I have been riding CX 40 clements that I love. Those are my go-to wheels. It just depends on the conditions. Not expecting so much mud, I rode them this weekend at Hyattsville. They were rubbish. But you know at least I got to fall in the mud. Its good to be able to run soft and to have something that will grip. DCCX has some fun off-camber. Then again, last year it was dry and hard – and half the race pinch-flatted.

I am racing in the Cat 2/3 race and will be running 38’s. Since it is not a UCI race, run what ya brung!

I am woefully unprepared to do this, for two reasons:
1) I do not have a bike
2) I am woefully unpreparedReason 1) is being mitigated. Phuoc at Bike Club is putting a bike together from stuff we found lying around (this is literally true – we found a frame of a particularly intriguing color lying on the floor. Color is the most important characteristic, right?).
Reason 2) is still a problem.

ParticipantReason 2 will be all the more amusing for the rest of us!

Just a reminder that DCCX is this weekend! Registration closes tomorrow, so go ahead and get your sign up on!
From what I hear, the course is in good shape and was relatively dry Sunday afternoon (unlike Falkorburg, which was a slop fest!). Fingers crossed for a fast and dry course on Sunday.
