Also, if this sounds exciting to anyone who does the WO&D early in the am (I go WB)- let me know, suffering loves company.

Difficult Run is awesome for trail running! Definitely sounds like a good idea. You can probably lock up far enough off the trail that the bike should be okay.

I don’t run anymore, thank god, but I’ve done some running on the trail just west of Vienna (half a mile maybe?) I don’t know what the name of it is. I think it’s right by a Vienna city limits sign. The trail is on the other side of the creek, and then goes up into the hills. I don’t know if there’s five miles worth of trails, but there’s a fair bit in there. Hilly too.

Going east on the wod, just past hunter mill road, the fairfax cross county trail intersects and goes off road to the left side of the paved path. Excellent trail running all the way to great falls! It’s about 4 miles from that point on the wod to route 7 near Colvin mill. Great mountain biking too. North side park in Vienna is also not too bad. Further west you can do som trail running at lake fairfax. Also good mountain biking.

I think we’re all talking about the same place!

totally support this statement. running north toward great falls park are some amazing trails, you’ll have a good time. there’s an awning a couple hundred yards east of where difficult run collides with WOD, so you can probably lock it up there.

edit: to clarify for those that don’t know, difficult run is a part of the cross county trail

I’d like to try one of the XTERRA off-road tris someday, but not this year. I don’t have any suggestions on trail running. I do all of my running on paved trails, large parking lots and roads.
