ParticipantYup, fixed.
Glad the crash wasn’t bad.

ParticipantI am glad they will cite the driver. Although your crash was relatively uneventful, it’s this general inattentiveness that endangers all of us. I don’t think the driver should be allowed to get away with being careless.
There may be some advantages to a 65-pound bike!

ParticipantGlad you were okay. If only there had been some way that driver could have let people know of the intention to change lanes–perhaps some sort of sign or signal or something.
The driver had just passed you too, so even if you were in the vehicle’s blind spot, if s/he had even been paying any attention whatsoever to the situation, it never would have happened.
This is the same thing happened to me on the same block but on G Street.
With the Holiday Market there, things are more sketchy than normal because the white tents are more fun to look at than the road.

This is the same thing happened to me on the same block but on G Street. BTW, you appear to be going eastbound, not westbound (it’s about two blocks from my work). With the Holiday Market there, things are more sketchy than normal because the white tents are more fun to look at than the road.
Yeah, I realized it was eastbound after I posted. But you can’t edit titles.

ParticipantI didn’t realize there were so many 60+ pound cargo bikes about, but Washcycle has a post with a video of one getting hit on 11/22. (Cyclist goes onto the hood, but she’s okay enough to post on the thread.) She was cited even though the video clearly shows the car running right into her.

Mine is not really a cargo bike. I just keep a lot of heavy stuff in the panniers.
But citing the person who was hit seems to be SOP a lot of the time. I’m just glad I got the police officers who didn’t do that.

ParticipantI’m glad to hear you were uninjured and that the driver is being cited for hitting you. Having the footage of the crash (from 2 angles, to boot) really helps to tell your side of the story.
I’m curious, though. Did the driver give any sort of explanation why they did not look or signal before changing lanes?

The driver didn’t get a chance to. I went up to the intersection, to avoid stopping in traffic. I looked for the car, missed seeing it, and went on. Only when looking at the video did I realize the car had actually stopped. So the driver will be cited for improper lane changing, but not hit and run.

ParticipantGlad you weren’t hurt. In light of the good outcome, you should speed up the video and add Yakkety Sax.

Presumably not in the copies I gave the police.
