ParticipantNot really. What do other frames on CL go for? It looks worn. Derailleur and chain probably need replacing. Who know’s about the chain rings. It takes money and time to get all the components on the frame and a bike’s value is mostly in the components anyway. It’s plausible the owner wants to keep his $400 wheels and put them on a new bike and not necessarily give them up.

ParticipantThanks. Maybe I’m just paranoid.

Is it just me, or does this post scream “stolen”? A $50 Newest, minus wheels?
http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/bik/3056286278.htmlNoticed it doesn’t have pedals either. Not sure if that makes it more or less likely. Contact and ask for the history, I suppose.

ParticipantMaybe the poster is one of those cycling enthusiasts who has bike parts and partially assembled bikes all over the basement and/or garage. I’ve heard there may be people like that out there.

ParticipantI assume everything on CL is stolen unless convinced otherwise. I’ve bought at least one good bike off there though.

I’d had felt some guilt about the used road bike I bought last year off of craigslist, in terms of not really researching the seller/history. I googled his name, got a google result that made me depressed, but then…I clicked on over to read the thread with the disturbing subject line…(don’t forget to expand the entire thread)…

…and giggled. “Buy low and sell high,” indeed.
Brendan
PS – doesn’t mean he buys from reputable craigslisters, of course.

I remember that guy… he used to post on DC CL under fake cities so his ads would be appropriate for DC instead of Baltimore. He bought a couple of bikes that I had been looking at on CL and I saw them listed the next week for twice the $ – only difference was now they were on his lawn and wet from the hose he ran over them.
