I’ll work a 2 hour shift on Thurs.

Edit: what times do you need? I need to pencil in my calendar.

I just realized I had the days wrong. We are looking for volunteers on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

    Hope you can make it!

I would like to help out, but I may be out of town then. Is there a cut off point for volunteers?

No cut off–just let us know when you have your schedule figured out. Thanks for the interest!

Tim, I’ll take Saturday. I’m flexible with the hours, just let me know.

I will take a shift as soon as I coordinate the times with my wife, who has her own booth at the fair (Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment – stop by all).

Actually, there are some booth wars at our fair, like the abortion rights vs. anti-abortion booths, or Dems vs. Republicans, or Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) vs. Parents and Friends of “Ex-Gays” (PFOX). It’s entertaining to see how close their booths end up, and watch people walk past one and then the other. Only in Arlington. Most fairs have wars between farm animals.

If you really want a booth war, you could set up an “Arlingtonians for a Filthy, Disgusting Environment” booth right next to my wife’s.

Wait. You mean there won’t be any pig racing at the Arlington Fair? Demolition Derby? Funnel Cake? Poorly maintained carnival rides? This is like what, educational?

Oh snap. I know where I’m staying away from :p

No greased pig contest no CCrew. :p

Have no fear CCrew, the Hollywood Hogs All-Star Racing Team are scheduled to make an appearance. The web site promises all the traditional fair-tivities – rides, food, movie night, etc. Seriously, there seems to be enough jollification for the urban masses.

On a completely unrelated note, I may reconsider carrying a basic first aid kit when I’m out and about. A nice young lady borrowed my ill-mannered, bad-tempered ladies bike named Louisa to ride with my son on the Custis Trail today. About seven miles from home, Louisa saw her opportunity and threw the nice young lady off into the curb. She sustained a nasty gash but was a real trooper and biked back to my house. By the time she arrived, there was a fair amount of blood running down her leg and she was alarmed. I patched her up and she’s fine but a few baby wipes and a big adhesive bandage would have solved the problem on the spot. I sort of doubt if my son will get a second date with this young woman. Oh well.

Pigmageddon is just weeks away at the Arlington Fair (where Bike Arlington will have a booth, so ya’ll stop by),

Wow, between Spartacus the other day and then today, you sure they’re not conspiring against you? :)

    Glad to hear she’s ok.

No, I have a strict containment policy with the bikes to prevent just such a coup.

Spartacus (my road bike) is special, I’d park him in the living room if I could get away with it. He has a place of honor in the basement at the bottom of the steps.

Free Willy (my incorrigible MTB) is in quarantine in the utility room until he understands who is boss.

Louisa (a freak of nature, heavy and slow with the biggest saddle north of the Carolina border) is kept in the shed, out of sight, out of mind

Aphrodite (17 year old son’s hybrid bike he only uses to lure young women on outings) keeps Louisa company.

Aren’t you glad you don’t hear the voices I hear?;)

Can I still sign up for a Saturday shift? Might bring my 10-year-old along, too. We might even ride our bikes there.

Hard to believe I have lived in the DC area for 26 years and a couple of those in Arlington and I never knew there was an Arlington County Fair. Is there a pie baking contest? Not that I can bake a pie, nor do I live in Arlington.

Ann, didn’t you get a new bike recently? Which one is that?

Yes!!!! There are so many food competition categories my head spins. Please enter. But check the requirements.
I would be so happy if you came on Saturday!!

Free Willy is my new MTB, he has no manners whatsoever. He may be imprisoned in solitary for a long time with only an hour a day of sunlight.
