Ha. Hope you enjoyed the rest of the issue, too. :)
Funny to see the various keywords inserted to ‘feminize’ and sexualize the content.

More seriously, though, and thinking what Cosmo’s all about, I have sometimes wondered if efforts to advocate for bicycle commuting could benefit from greater appeals to physical appearance….just as campaigns to keep youths away from cigarettes have evolved over the years to emphasize less the medical details and more the superficial effects like wrinkles.

Like other lady-riders, I’ve several times been approached by other women asking about my exercise regimen, and even asking if I’ll be their personal trainer. I tell them, just ride your bike. This initial exchange often evolves into lengthy conversations about the amazing advantages of bicycle commuting. But the initial trigger is purely superficial, in true Cosmo fashion, “I want to have legs like hers.”

The title seems a bit off…it’s more like “rebuttals to excuses for not riding to work,” but otherwise it’s all very valid advice that Cosmo readers might not come across anywhere else. Anecdotally, I’ve noticed more women commuters (assumed to be commuters, based on timing) out on the trails (primarily the CCT, but also the Custis) this year than years past. I’ve always seen plenty in the city, but that would drop off quickly once I hit the trails, so it’s encouraging to see a shift among the longer distance crowd.

The headline didn’t match the content of the article. An effective article would have been the same headline with three vignettes: woman who lost lots of weight by biking to work, woman who had health benefits from biking to work (reduced stress, off the Prozac, etc.) and then woman who attributes things to biking to work that are probably unrelated (got promoted, won the lotto, found a boyfriend).

If it doesn’t explain how riding to work can help a woman drive her man wild in bed, then I guess there is no need to forward the link to Mrs. Bentbike.

Just wait for my forthcoming article, “Seven riding positions to drive your man wild”
