ParticipantSaw them too. They were riding towards Columbia Pike. The question is “why”? (talking like Jack Palance)

ParticipantCould be merely as simple as deterrence. Just like they drive though shopping centers and commuter lots. Now granted, we all know it isn’t consistent so any smart criminal would know they probably won’t be back for about 2 weeks. Or someone called in a something “suspicious” so they took a ride through, probably finding nothing.

ParticipantIf what I learned from years of watching CHiPs is applicable, they were probably in hot pursuit of an arsonist or a gang of RV thieves.

ParticipantOne was riding eastward along the W&OD at Bon Air Park at 5:50 pm. I riding above the trail on N Arlington Mill Dr and couldn’t see a second officer. This is the second time I’ve seen a motorcycle officer on the W&OD in the past two weeks. Also occasionally see bicycle cops and the park ranger in an SUV on the trail.

ParticipantIt makes me want to wait at a stop sign on the W&OD and warn the cops that motorcycles aren’t allowed on the trail.
Then, when they try to protest, I’ll rudely interrupt them with a “HEED MY WARNING, SIR”
sorry….. i just have a little pent up anger toward hypocritcal cops on the trails….

ParticipantSometimes it’s necessary for law enforcement to be the bike trail to investigate a call. I don’t think they will park their county vehicle on the street and do foot patrol. I rarely see motorcycle cops in there. Cops on bicycles, yes. It wouldn’t really matter if you started complaining that they were in there. If a certain badge has such history of cutting through, then the department will give him a bicycle instead.

ParticipantI’ve seen full-size Crown Vic police cruisers on the trails before, mainly out in Loudon County by Rt 28.

ParticipantNow that’s not right. They will cut through just to set up a speed trap for motorists on the other side? If they were trying to apprehend a suspect and know that they can get the upper hand by cutting through to catch this individual, then YEAH by all means to stop the bad guy. Oh you wanna set up a speed trap? Go around sir!!!
