After this weekend’s rain, the gravel section just where the paved section ends is very soft. Skinny tires can sink a little, be careful.
Been through there twice this weekend on skinny tires. The undercarriage of my bike is now one big mess. I highly recommend 4MR unless you like breaking out the Simple Green.

ParticipantI sent a note to Arlington County this morning asking them to fix this intersection sooner rather than later given that the other side took over 3 months. Here is the response I received.
We apologize for any inconveinence to the normal funtion of the subject. It is the contractors intention to complete the asphalt paving for the proposed realignment of bike trail as soon as the weather permits. We will monitor safety issues and make appropriate adjustsment until completed. Happy Thanksgiving and Enjoy!

ParticipantThe new section of re-aligned trail was paved this morning. nice and smooth.
Now they just need to put the crosswalk buttons on the right side of the trail.

Interesting since it wasn’t paved at 6 pm last night. There was a crew working on the southeast corner of the intersection then, so maybe they got to it after that?

ParticipantHere are some photos taken at 10:30 this morning. There is lots of activity at this site this morning, there are multiple flagmen directing traffic, including helping bicyclists cross Columbia Pike and Four Mile Run Drive.

ParticipantThis morning there was a dangerous drop off from the west curb onto Columbia Pike, necessitating getting off your bike and walking it. It was pretty clear coming from the east but someone could easily fall right into the ditch coming from the west. As usual, there was no signage pointing out the danger, but bikers have learned to expect the unexpected at this intersection I guess.
