The person you passed was probably bikenurse, who runs Proteus (and is my spouse). Here was her route this morning, which shows the way from Rhode Island down to DC using the completed sections of the trolley trail. There’s still one stretch that’s under construction between Riverdale and College Park (where the Whole Foods development is going in). The trolley makes a good flood avoidance route when the NE branch is high.

:) Awesome info! Thanks! She did have a Proteus decal on her rear fender. I am certainly going to check this route out tomorrow. How is riding on RI Ave? Looks like a slim shoulder there. On the return route, do you usually ride north on RI Ave?

    Thanks again!

I usually try to avoid riding on Rhode Island, but in that stretch between the end of the trolley trail and the entrance to the NW branch trail (by the skatepark), it’s not too bad. Usually. There’s some tricky light timing in one spot southbound where you have to be careful; northbound isn’t too bad since traffic has to merge left anyway. Still, you’re at the mercy of the Raging Maryland Commuters (RMCs) in that stretch.

I think it’s in the plans (or at least the hopes) to continue the trolley trail down to Armentrout road on the east side, but I’m not sure who would do the work (state, county, city)? I’ll continue to pester for this at the next WABA Prince Geo’s bike advocacy meeting.

Very nice trail. Can’t believe I missed it :) It will be pretty sweet when the College Park-Riverdale path gets developed. Maybe during the next dry day I will ride that and see what is going on.

Yea, you are right, the Rhode Island part is not too bad. When looking on the map, I was like, “Man, you are on RI Ave for a while” but in reality, I was only on it for a minute.

Since finding this gem, it has basically replaced the NE branch trail for me. No sand pits, no gravel, and no mud pits!
