I know spring will (hopefully) be here soon, but good article on cold weather gear:

I’ve never put on a pair of bib tights. And I’m okay with that.

    Bumping for new riders.

    Also: Merino everything.

They’re pretty great if you’re riding really long distances. I’m mostly in the wearing regular clothes camp except when it’s hot or I’m riding more than 10 miles.

Definitely merino everything. Thick wool hiking socks are a good first purchase. If I could turn back time I would have bought bar mitts my first year of winter riding.

Bar mitts! Seriously, decades of not using them, then bought them and got one use* out of them before our too-early spring, but that one use was a real eye opener. I have poor hand circulation, and that was the first time riding in the low- to mid-20s where I did not have any problems.

I was always nervous I’d wreck the bike using them. I did forget and jerked the handlebars once, but I imagine I’ll get used to them and not do that.

*Wore lobster gloves underneath them, and they did fit (XLs)

    I couldn’t agree more, Boomer.

I can wear thin gloves when using the bar mitts because my hands stay so warm.

I will pull one hand out at a time to air it out during the course of a ride because my hands get too warm.
