The socks I like even better than Smartwool are those by Swiftwick. They’re more expensive, but I found they last longer and have a better temperature range for me. My feet are comfy at lower and higher temperatures. Locally they’re available at Tri360 Near the W&OD trail just down from East Falls Church Metro. Tri360 donated a bunch of pairs of Swiftwick socks for HP100 primes, which was a pretty dang cool thing to do!
Sweet! I just so happen to be heading over there later today to get my bike checked out. Will bring additional monies.
Thanks!

ParticipantQuick trip report.
Tri360 is AWESOME. Super nice people. Very accommodating with all of my dumbass questions. Totally convenient to my house (less than 3 miles) and on the way to work. They replaced my front and rear brakes and trued my front wheel and I was out of there in under 30 minutes.
Definitely my LBS.

ParticipantDeFeet makes an awesome heavy wool sock as well. Actually, I stick with DeFeet wool socks for my biking and rowing sock needs year-round. Now if only they made a dress sock…

ParticipantI have a few pairs of the DeFeet wool socks and I like them very much. I also have a pair of the Swiftwicks which I haven’t tried yet (got them as a prime at the Reston CX race).
Strangely in this uber cold weather I’ve actually just been wearing some very thick wool ones I got on ebay as spares. They seem to work so I haven’t tried to fix what isn’t broken.

I got a pair of Swiftwick socks as a gift last summer and love them for summer riding…. great compression, no hot spots, and they keep my feet dry. However, I haven’t tried their winter variety. My favorite winter socks are the PI Thermal socks… Merino wool, tall cuff, thin, warm, dry and pretty odor free….although pricey. In really cold weather I have been using PI’s softshell booties for years and love them, although they are just about to fall apart so I ordered their new PRO WXB bootie which haven’t arrived yet… shocker!… I’ll report later.

Good to know. A very short detour off my commute via W&OD. I had no idea they existed, but will check them out.

Participant8 hours out on the bike today with wind chill in the low teens. Under my shoe covers, my toes were both warm and cute.
Love,
