OMG please no. I would love concrete planks here, or ones like the new bridges out towards herndon. These were awful wooden planks, then they were replaced, and one month later we all warped again!

Yes, it is. There’s a plaque on the east side of the bridge that identifies it as the Citizens’ Bridge, but I think most folks know it as the Bridge over Broad St.

I remember every time I ride over that bridge, it feels like my tires are ever-so-slightly lopsided and bouncy. It’s a very uncomfortable feeling because it reminds me of all the times that I used to get pinch flats before I became more skilled at changing a flat tire. I think the wood looks better, but I’ll take a concrete one like the newish W&OD bridge above I-495 over a wooden bridge anyday!

You seem to be misunderstanding the situation. There was a wooden plank. The wooden plank got a hole in it. They then filled the hole in the plank with a concrete patch. (That’ll last about 10 minutes come winter freezing, if it doesn’t fall out this summer.) Putting a concrete deck on the bridge doesn’t not appear to be one of the options. (Which sucks–there is just too much traffic for those wooden decks to hold up.)

I understand the situation quite well. I ride that bridge at least 3x a week.
After you jokingly suggested they run to Lowe’s, I was trying to convey the problematic history of the wooden planks here at the bridge, combined with my pleasing experience of the newer composite bridges out between herndon and purcellville. I’d like to see the citizen’s bridge wooden planks replaced with those composite ones. Hopefully NVRPA can do that next time, unless of course, Falls Church City gets involved.

I just want them to fix the bridge with a solution that isn’t going to pop out and form a projectile. Composite planks would be better, a solid deck would be best, but a lump of concrete is like the worst, most nonsensical thing I can imagine. The point about lowes is that I also can’t imagine how it was easier for them to come up with this crazy solution than to get an actual plank and fix it properly.

That’s what the cone is for!

Lol, in that case, shouldn’t the cone be under the bridge where the concrete piece will eventually fall? Or better yet, let’s paint a target underneath! Maybe with a sign that reads, “SOMEBODY thought it was a good idea to repair the piece of wooden bridge above with concrete; watch for falling debris!”
