ParticipantA very cool idea to get the word out though I’m sure it was expensive.
I hope people that don’t need the maps/coupons bring them into work to give away or donate somehow to a worthy cause.

We normally print about 50,000 maps per year, so yes, this is quite an increase!
When we put the gold star on the front that says “The BEST map of Arlington” that is us tooting our own horn (or ringing our own bell, as the case may be), but we have gotten tons of feedback that the bike map gets used in all sorts of ways. From realtors including it in their sales kits to new home owners to residents just wanting a good map of the county, we’re quite pleased with it’s popularity.
A few other fun facts:
The Map & Rides section of the BikeArlington website is the second most visited page on the BA website, after the main homepage.
Both the terms, “arlington bike map” and “arlington bike trails” are in the top five most searched terms that bring users to the BA website.

ParticipantFYI, some people on ArlNow are reporting that they didn’t get the inserts:

ParticipantRedeemed my helmet & light coupon yesterday at the Shirlington Commuter Store – 30 seconds, in and out, nice and easy. They appear to be keeping them in the…boiler room? I guess they don’t have a lot of storage space.
Props to the county for the classy covered bike parking at the Shirlington Station.

ParticipantI enjoyed having my new Cabi helmet last night, when I rode a Cabi from work to see Cosi Fan Tutte at the Kennedy Center, having metro’d in in the morning since I was getting a ride home afterwards. Going by Cabi was fun, and an opera with modern day characters and long-haired motorcycle dudes made it seem even more appropriate, although my date commented that I was probably the only one who had come to the opera by bicycle. (I wasn’t so sure about that.) I’ve installed a rear view mirror on the helmet, which I keep at my office, and now feel more comfortable taking Cabis off the sidewalk and onto the roads. Thank you, Arlington.

ParticipantI would just like to say that I’ll be having a pair of folks from Oregon staying at my place from WarmShowers, and I’ve made it a point to not lose this map so they can use it when they’re here. The amount of detail and area covered on that thing will be excellent for them when they do the tourist thing.

ParticipantI was passing through by the Rosslyn Commuter Store and saw they had a sign up that all locations were out of the CaBi helmets. It didn’t say anything about the lights. I also didn’t see any Arlington County bicycle maps in the wall racks. Must be tough to be so popular!

ParticipantI still have my coupons that came in the mail ($10 off WABA membership, helmet/light giveaway, free 24 hr CaBi membership) that I don’t need. If anyone wants them, I can drop them in the mail to you. Send me a PM. First person gets them.
