I imagine they meant neighborhood street.

“Puppy paws?” Did they totally make up that term?

that whole intersection is gross. let me rephrase. The entire length of Lee Highway is pretty gross to bicycle on. Except for the downhill eastbound part from Veitch to Ft. Myer. That part is fast and awesome.

I could see how this would be confusing road signage.

See what I have to deal with (both in terms of infrastructure and personalities in my ‘hood)!

FYI, puppy paws are pavement markings to direct turning cars to take the correct path (not the signs themselves, as implied in comments).

I’ve heard engineers refer to them jokingly as “dumbass lines.”

And it seems they’ve found their target audience!

Pedestrian streets would be awesome. Close off a few streets to cars. But allow cyclists to ride through at slow speeds. I think this could be done on some side streets located near busy neighborhoods.

Given the aerial photo in the ArlNow article showing two veterinary clinics across the street from one another, puppy paws might be particularly appropriate.

Why do you think they were joking?

I think I’ll also start calling the big white stop line a dumbass line, because, dumbass, you were supposed to stop there, not use it as a way to spin your rear tire when you hit the gas.

You don’t even have to close it off completely to cars, just make it a SUPER slow speed limit, and make it clear that peds and bikes have priority. Every time I bike down Key Blvd, I imagine it as a real bike blvd…
