Cheap Bar Mitts

This is from the site, your bike hates you. They were mocking this, I just love it. Using 1/2 gallon OJ containers as wind and water proof bar mitts.

Anybody remember that Zanna Worzella girl from like years ago? I recall that she tried this with gallon milk jugs with a somewhat moderate amount of success.

Tim Waggoner (“Lucho”), a former top-level Ironman triathlete and current coach, ultrarunner and podcaster on Endurance Planet, recently cut up a smaller plastic bottle in half and used the two halves as makeshift windblockers. They don’t cover the tops of his hands though.

Besides the problem of the sharp edges of the plastic, it seems that the plastic bottles wouldn’t keep out the cold as well as the neoprene versions do. Bar Mitts aren’t 100% effective but they do help a lot.

Last year I was riding bikeshare around NYC in January when tempts where in the teens. The food delivery guys all had bar mitts made of plastic grocery bags. Just tie them on there and make a pocket for your hands.
