And you can’t count on me going to the left at the bottom of the hour either. One ping only, Vasili.
I had a 50-50 chance and I needed a break…

It wasn’t so much drafting…. much more an “oh shit” moment when I signaled that I was passing the runner dude and Mr. Aero Guy was nowhere near his brakes and going WAY TOO FAST. Fortunately for me he aimed a little to the left and very quickly became an aerodynamic mountain biker. No-one was injured, though I’m guessing I’ll have a few colorful bruises and his chamois may have been soiled. Runner dude had headphones on and appears to have missed the whole thing.

That movie gets quoted quite often in our household… particularly Sean Connery’s Scossian (or Ruttish) dialect.

ParticipantJust Confirmed: Mel Pinto, local bike royalty, will attend this evening’s Happy Hour. He started Mel Pinto Imports in 1958 and was one of the first to import bikes from Europe. During the bike boom of the early 1970s he sold more than 87,000 Gitane bicycles throughout the country. He introduced professional European bike racing to this area and organized a race that went on to become known as the National Capital Open.

It will be awesome to have an opportunity to meet Mel.

ParticipantHot off the Press:
Through the generosity of Jan at Bikenetics we have rocking’ hot coupons! There are 36 and they will be divided into three groups and distributed first-come-first-serve at 5:45, 6:30 and 7:00 so that everyone gets an opportunity for this very special offer. Many thanks to Bikenetics!

ParticipantAnn, Thanks again for a great party. My wife and 3 kids had a blast. Thanks again to Bike Arlington for the munchies. I had a nice time putting faces and names to usernames. Usually when I ride East on the Custis in the morning I see all of the people struggling with the hills and think, “Suckers, I’m flying downhill, weeeeee. But today pulling my 6 and 5 year old in the Chariot, and my wife pedaling with our 2 year old (turns 3 tomorrow) up those hills I looked over at the people flying down the hills and thought, Suckers, the beer and wings are in my direction, you are just flyind away from them, okay, more for me!

ParticipantAnn,
What can I add? It was a great evening, and everything you did helped make it a wonderful and very fun get together! Huge thanks to you, BikeArlington, Bikenetics and everyone else who helped out, and to the very dapper and charming Mr. Pinto for coming out to join us. It was great to see everyone and to meet new people, kids, spouses and friends. Thanks again so much!
