ParticipantAlthough I’ve never been to Proteus, given its location, I was bummed to read about the circumstances that forced the issue. But congratulations to Laurie and I wish you two the best. I think now I’ll have to ride up there and check it out and support my NBC teammates!

ParticipantThe whole situation sucks – I met Jill once, and she’s clearly awesome. But I know the shop will be in good hands with Ben and Laurie. I’m going to have to make the trek up there again sometime soon, as it’s an awesome shop, if not terribly convenient for me.

ParticipantI was very sorry to hear the news. Jill is a tremendous asset to the local cycling community. I hope the circumstances change and they can both be back in Maryland again soon.
And best wishes to Laurie and Ben! Glad to know Proteus will continue in good hands. Do keep us informed of farewell festivities.

ParticipantWalking into Proteus is like walking into the living room of a close friend. There is no other LBS like it. Where else can you walk in and find yourself being offered homemade cookies and then receive a giant hug from Jill who is happy to see you even if she just met you. In this world of commercial franchises, impersonal store clerks, and pressure to up-sell, Proteus is an oasis of neighborly friendliness. When you enter Proteus you become a member of the family.
My good friend Jill, you are a beautiful person and I hope you return to the area soon. I will miss you very much.
But I know Proteus is in capable hands and even though the news is distressing, the silver lining is that the spirit of Proteus lives on.

Thanks TwoWheels. It’s actually a pretty nice ride, although it can be a little confusing to navigate — I wind around lots of residential neighborhoods and trails to avoid riding on Bladensburg Rd or Route 1.

ParticipantLooks like the going away party for Jill will be at the shop on Saturday July 21, at 6pm. I’ll post more details here later. If anyone’s riding out from DC and wants a guide, let me know! -Jeff

Thanks for the great service! It’s nice to finally walk in to a bike shop and be greeted promptly, and get such knowledgeable help. The 2 other shops near me haven’t been able to give consistent quality service, so now I’ve got a new LBS!
