Footnote, don’t touch any of that water in the Potomac (at least say south of Great Falls) unless your normally put your hands in untreated sewage, although I’m sure the rate of dissipation, even for 5 million gallons, has to got to be fairly fast.
And reports are that the towpath is still pretty muddy. My detour ended up being to bike straight uphill for two miles, taking Wisconsin Avenue from K Street up to the Cathedral.
I thought the towpath was ok today, on my road bike. There were a few wet spots, where bikers were going around the edges, but towpath in general was pretty firm and dry. According to my odometer, the towpath detour is about 0.4 miles.
