Definitely. Every single time I come up on a slow-moving car in the fast lane, it *always* has Pennsylvania plates!

Yes. All of the rest of the tail from Delecarlia to downtown Bethesda, which is the busiest, highest traffic section of MUP anywhere around… both bikes and peds. But the peds greatly out number the bikes. And this is where the jerks operate at their worst.

I see reckless cyclists on the MVT too. That’s why I started up a thread earlier this year about not using the MVT (or other multiuse trails) for bike speed workouts.
Hope you (or anyone else here) weren’t the one who punched me in the arm as I passed a convoy of bikers struggling up a hill on the MVT.

ParticipantI’ve yelled at some of the in-between passers (threading between two-way traffic) but never punched anyone. Besides, I generally try to avoid riding on the MVT during peak hours. I’ve only ridden on the MVT a few times this year, not counting the on-street section in Old Town. With the new Potomac Ave. path and traffic lanes, there’s no need for me to take the MVT to Alexandria these days. If I’m heading north to Memorial Bridge, I usually take the Washington Blvd. trail.
I haven’t taken the southern section, beyond the Wilson Bridge, this year. If I’m doing a long ride, I usually head across the bridge over to National Harbor.

ParticipantThe way certain idiots operate their bikes or their sneakers on the northern part of the CCT, I honestly feel safer on K Street with no bike lanes.

Nah, that’s not an Irish thing at all. We’re snarky, sarcastic, and can hold a grudge like nobody’s business, but we usually start out friendly.
That right there was pure Internet Tough Guy. I diagnose an overexposure to bikeforums.net at a tender age.
See, it worked.

(Did I mention that the other CCT is not overly bicycle friendly?? Let’s all play What Type of Pavement Will We Ride This Mile??)

And on the fourth day was created the Cyclecross bike, and the people rejoiced.
I can’t fully express how much joy my daily CX detour through DR, CCT and the MTB trails of Lake Fairfax Park has brought me… Now the new layer of filth that overpowers even my mighty ShowerPill is a work in process.

ParticipantCross County Trail (CCT) Fairfax. A great trail which will take you from the shores of the potomac to the shores of the Occoquan. However, it is in various stages of completion and development. Some parts of the trail are just dirt path through woods, some are crushed stone, some are pavement, some are on county roads. Some is poorly marked – and some parts immediately transform without warning – at places you will be dropped into streams. It does cut through Wakefield which is a great mountain biking park. It does cross the W&OD. It does go near Lake Fairfax.
It is a fun adventure. Dont do it on a road bike (or bring lots of spare tubes).
This last weekend I took the subway to Springfield and biked north to Vienna on the CCT, and then went East on W&OD home. Gotta say, it was really fun.

[/URL]I did the exact same route a couple of weekends ago, and took a short video with my iphone.
Love this part of the trail. Also, this was on a saturday, hardly anyone on the trail. during the weekday you could probably have it all to yourself.

ParticipantYes, a cyclocross bike will work. It is one of my favorite rides around here. It’s beautiful, quiet and shaded. Bring your camera.
