    Couple of rules questions.

Seek the game ball. Maketh up a new ordinance for the game. Hide the sacred ball. Post your new ordinance along with guidance on how those who follow can seek the gameball. Thou shall find, hide and post within the same hours 24.

For finding the gameball, ye shall be awarded 5 points, less a point for each day that passeth before the gameball is once again uncovered.

Ye may find the gameball but once during each orbit of the sun. Ye may possess the gameball but once every four turns, plus one turn for every additional orbit around the sun which may transpire before the gameball is found once again.

There’s usage of both “hours 24” and “orbit of the sun”. Are they identical, or is an orbit of the sun 24 hours that starts at 12am EST, or something else? Secondly, what are the limits of finding the gameball? Once I’ve hidden it, I need to wait for three different people to find/re-hide the gameball (assuming that a “turn” is composed of a player finding and re-hiding the ball). I’m not sure how the additional turns are added in. Do I need to count the hours until the ball (when I’ve hidden it) is found, integer divide by 24, and then stay out of the game for 3+n turns (or all that with calendar days instead)? Or do I need to include more data in this calculation?

Also, what should be used at the times for hiding and finding the gameball in the above? The actual time, the time notice is posted in this thread, or something else?

Isn’t the point to this that there are no rules? Including rules about having to be in Freezing Saddles?

In deference to Bob and his game, if he would like to bar Friends of Freezing Saddles, or people whose names start with S and rhyme with believe, or just me personally, that’s his prerogative. At this point there have been only three players: rcannon, reji and josh, so there’s still plenty of room to clarify.
Which raises this rules question: if the game is limited to certain people, are the “likes” that need to be counted also limited to those people?

I will presume there is no prohibition to spectating: cheering on favorite players, booing enemies, screaming at coaches and referees, strategy discussions on talk radio, pictures of the game, etc.

    Ah…
This is the purely semantic bullshit that makes this town run so well.

I think the distinction is that the data for any “team” of non-competing players will not be tracked in the system.

An “orbit of the sun”? Is this a very long game, or did the rule maker mean a rotation of the Earth?

Actually Dismal I think has it right on the nose. :p It’s semantic bullshit.

Call it Slackers. Call it Friends. It’s the same thing.

    Let’s call it FRED.

Every year there have been FREDS. FREDS have wanted to participate in Freezing Saddles without competing. FREDS wanted to play in the pointless games.

I will note – as the creator of both FS and FREDS – that FREDS never asked to be on the leaderboard. That was a historical accident. Not sure how it happened. But it was never asked for by the FREDS. Why would they?? They did not want to compete.

FREDS formed a team – the Slacker team – because they wanted to. And well the Friends can do that to if they want to and no one can tell them that they cant.

And every year you Steve opposed the existence of the FREDS – with a lot of energy – even though it had nothing to do with you and did not impact your experience with FS at all. People with cancer. People with broken bones. People who would be able to cycle only part of the season – wanted to play the reindeer games – and you opposed their participation because of your “beliefs.”

This year you want to play a FS reindeer game but not compete.

You are a FRED (a Slacker, or a Friend – DISMAL is right – its semantics – what is relevant is that you want to participate in FS reindeer games but not compete).

I dont care the name. The goal of the creation of the Slackers was always the promotion of the community – not the name.

Of course you can play the Reindeer games Steve.

My only point was to elucidate that you are trying to play in a role that you have opposed for years – and to maybe get you to see why that opposition was counterproductive and even harmful.

Now…. back to stupidity. Oh wait….

One of the primary rules of Calvin-ball is that you must believe in a Ptolemaic geo-centric view of the universe.

Tim the Enchanter says that the Sun orbits around the Earth.

Dare thee question the wisdom of Tim???

The rule of Tim the Enchanter is Arbitrary and Capricious. The rule of Tim the Enchanter is great and mighty and Vague. The rule of Tim the Enchanter shall not be questioned!!!

    monty-python-tim-the-enchanter-costume-01.jpg

Look, I’ll be honest. Tim the Enchanter was pretty much drunk when he came up with all this. The rules are intentionally vague to start with so that Tim can mess with you — I mean so that you can flesh out the rules. Tim has pretty much lost control of the game as it is already. There are very intentionally undefined parts of this game. Just remember

    Scoring

Reji gets 5 points for a find.
Reji gets 50 points for going outside the rules and including swag in the form of booze
Reji gets -20 points because the booze was gin and not bourbon.
Reji gets -25 points for failing to make up a new rule
Reji gets 5 points for all the martini jokes that ensued

Tim the Enchanter awards Reji 15 points. Tim’s rule is arbitrary!
