Calvinball, the only true Freezing Saddles game, where the rules are constantly made up and the points don’t matter.

I am Tim the Enchanter, keeper of the score, final arbiter of the rules.

calvin_hobbes_1.jpg

Your quest is to seek thee the gameball, hidden secretly amongst the cycling trails inside the beltway (but not to be found in any federal park).

Seek the game ball. Maketh up a new ordinance for the game. Hide the sacred ball. Post your new ordinance along with guidance on how those who follow can seek the gameball. Thou shall find, hide and post within the same hours 24.

For finding the gameball, ye shall be awarded 5 points, less a point for each day that passeth before the gameball is once again uncovered.

Ye may find the gameball but once during each orbit of the sun.* Ye may possess the gameball but once every other turn.

If your new ordinance nets three likes, ye shall likewise be award points equaling five and your ordinance shall be implemented as law of the game, which all who play must loyally adhere.

This be not organized competition. This be Calvinball. New rules are obliged to follow the spirit of Saint Calvin and Saint Hobbes. New ordinances shall not thee be bills of attainder but must generally apply to all fools of venture into our midst. New ordinances cannot benefit the ordinance’s scribe uniquely. New ordinances should make the court jester smile upon thee, and shall not place any in existential peril.

If a new ordinance shall contravene an old ordinance, the ordinance with highest net likes shall be declared the law.

Those who play shall seek their reward as follows:
• Rosalyn Award :: The player with the ordinance that has acquired the most net likes at the time of the next find
• Miss Wormwood Award :: The player with the most implemented ordinances
• Spaceman Spiff Award :: Best Calvinball
• Calvin Award :: Tim’s Award of Mystery (oooooooooohhh)
• Hobbes Award :: The Hobbes Prize is to be awarded to the person whom played but scored the least amount of points.
• Susie Award :: Most swag points
Lost Dog Rescue Award :: Best picture of your dog

** Consider Thee Calvinball a Hot-potatoe game – not a hide-and-seek game. This be not geocaching. More, we wish the Calvinball attain perpetual motion, constantly moving, from pilgrim to pilgrim. (Translation: dont make your hides hard or your rules constraining. The more silliness the better)
** NOTE This is not a winner take all game. “The points dont matter

The NivlacBall is now hidden
In the land of crystal bidden
Close to the overpass
Where travel can be first class
They’ve laid new workout equipment
And volleyball is intermittent

Phoenix Ball

Whilst riding my broom.
I got there too soon.
To allow Sarah Bee to find it.
So it came on a quest.
To head further west.
Now under a faux train bridge you’ll find it.

Need more of a clue?
Maybe this will do.
Those who like bike camping might find it.
But if you commute
By that CCT route.
Perhaps YOU will pause in your transit.

I tell you, don’t stray
Down to the quay
On a rainy day your feet need not get muddy.
But from your bike you must alight
And go down one flight
Beneath a few leaves you will find it.

New Ordinance: Next hider of the Phoenix Ball must place it secure in the third realm to bring Stryke’s spell to life.

“I’ll get you, my pretty, and your little dog, too!” she adds dramatically as she flies away on her bicycle, cackling maniacally.

So this is when you claimed the Phoenixball? Sorry I’m pretty rusty on my RPG hints… silly me… should have known…

I’m afraid not. I picked it up on the way to lunch this morning, but only had time to visit the forum just now. Sorry!

I disliked CBG’s post, because I don’t like this ordinance. However, I elited it for the dog pic.

Whither the Nivlacball? – Arlington to Fairfax County (along Holmes Run Trail off Sleepy Hollow Rd. Hath Tim the Enprancer never seen the danger shark ere?)
Unbelievably awesome swag wast indeed includeth in the tuppersmith box the Nivlacmouse wast riding upon.

It seemeth unseemly to brag about ones swag, or in some cases to advertise it in advanceth. Finders may wish to document what tis they founde.
Previous copy of Bike Snob NYC wast similarly kept secret at first and awarded no points–neither for swag nor for it being a new ball, which twas, for sayme reason.

Pilgrims must Delivery to the Dimension of Delusion their believed score. Tim’s sorcery reaches into the Upside-Down and detects Delusion. It is the preferred means of accounting in middle earth, as taught by demi-wizard gbain. That – or Tim has to use Turbo-Tax – which is far more evil.

That said, Pilgrim SteveO has amused with his puzzles and feats of alchemy. For this, onceth, Tim shall send the Demogorgon to the realm of the Excel Spread sheet and distort the score.

5 Points for Swag
3 Points for crossing the frontiers of provinces
New Calvinballs must be presented and receive four likes. Dilly Dilly.
Score distorted to add 8 points.

But Sister CBGanimal is now Tim’s favorite, with her detailed delivery of deluded score.

Any further whining about scores is subject to the Prior Incantato Spell
