Calvinball, the only true Freezing Saddles game, where the rules are constantly made up and the points don’t matter.

I am Tim the Enchanter, keeper of the score, final arbiter of the rules.

calvin_hobbes_1.jpg

Your quest is to seek thee the gameball, hidden secretly amongst the cycling trails inside the beltway (but not to be found in any federal park).

Seek the game ball. Maketh up a new ordinance for the game. Hide the sacred ball. Post your new ordinance along with guidance on how those who follow can seek the gameball. Thou shall find, hide and post within the same hours 24.

For finding the gameball, ye shall be awarded 5 points, less a point for each day that passeth before the gameball is once again uncovered.

Ye may find the gameball but once during each orbit of the sun.* Ye may possess the gameball but once every other turn.

If your new ordinance nets three likes, ye shall likewise be award points equaling five and your ordinance shall be implemented as law of the game, which all who play must loyally adhere.

This be not organized competition. This be Calvinball. New rules are obliged to follow the spirit of Saint Calvin and Saint Hobbes. New ordinances shall not thee be bills of attainder but must generally apply to all fools of venture into our midst. New ordinances cannot benefit the ordinance’s scribe uniquely. New ordinances should make the court jester smile upon thee, and shall not place any in existential peril.

If a new ordinance shall contravene an old ordinance, the ordinance with highest net likes shall be declared the law.

Those who play shall seek their reward as follows:
• Rosalyn Award :: The player with the ordinance that has acquired the most net likes at the time of the next find
• Miss Wormwood Award :: The player with the most implemented ordinances
• Spaceman Spiff Award :: Best Calvinball
• Calvin Award :: Tim’s Award of Mystery (oooooooooohhh)
• Hobbes Award :: The Hobbes Prize is to be awarded to the person whom played but scored the least amount of points.
• Susie Award :: Most swag points
Lost Dog Rescue Award :: Best picture of your dog

** Consider Thee Calvinball a Hot-potatoe game – not a hide-and-seek game. This be not geocaching. More, we wish the Calvinball attain perpetual motion, constantly moving, from pilgrim to pilgrim. (Translation: dont make your hides hard or your rules constraining. The more silliness the better)
** NOTE This is not a winner take all game. “The points dont matter

SCORE

Steve O
5 points for the find
5 points for the new ordinance
5 points for the new calvinball
5 points for the swag
3 points for the Hiaku
10 points for the puppy picture. I would give SteveO additional enchanted points for including a puppy picture but even my magic isnt that powerful.
I award SteveO 38 points.

I am Tim. I have fallen to the dark side! (nicely done Steve – and really really cool Calvinball!)

PS: NemaVeze’s ordinance has more than three likes and is now the law of middle earth. NemaVeze’s score to be divined upon the next find of the Calvinball.

If you blow into it really hard, you might be able to make a similar noise to a cat.

Point of order: this entitles me to officially propose the ordinance about crossing state lines?

Pursuant to the Knights of the Round table, yer ordinance has already been codified as the law of King Arthur’s realm and repressed upon the peasants

Is there a prohibition against holding both the Calvinball and Nivlacball simultaneously?

The rules of Calvinball, as it were, are entwined with mystery and wonder.

I was actually thinking yesterday of making a proposed ordinance that one may not possess both the Calvinball and the Nivlacball at the same time.

As I do not presently have a Calvinball, I think I am not able to propose this. However, given the mystery and wonder associated with this enterprise, perhaps I can anyway.

Tim, the Exalted Enchanter: What say if this proposed ordinance receives xx likes it becometh valid? Or someone with authority could just declare it.

OK, the Calvinball and the Nivlacball have both been hidden, and they have each crossed state lines.

Calvinball (leaving Virginia):
Across from Bardo
Under Frederick Douglass
Hope you’re not too short

Nivlacball (leaving DC):
Like “Sex and Candy”
Looking over Potomac
Left of the concrete

I’m just going to propose one ordinance, and I have no more dogs available for photos. Also, a reminder that SteveO’s ordinance regarding puzzle boxes is applicable (the Nivlacball is the puzzle box with new stuff inside).

Ordinance:
If a player captures two (or more) Calvinballs during the same day, they may abolish one ordinance of their choosing (to be selected on the day of the simultaneous capture).

Yeah, “Wizard” Cartman here…. filling in for the “All Knowing” Tim the Enchanter who is busy negotiating the Government Shutdown (cough “drunk”). Yeah, uh, in His Mightiness’ absence – could you cut me a stone and tell me what realm the Nivlacball was found in. I believe that would be The Old Line State??
