First, this isn’t a question of rules. Team 5 had a player who didn’t join up. The player was replaced. Then the player finally joined. At this point there are two options – kick someone out, or let it ride. I think letting it ride was the correct choice. Some may disagree, but it wasn’t a rule violation decreed by The Dark Cabal of Volunteers.

Second – there isn’t a Dark Cabal of Volunteers. This IS a democracy. Everyone who plays the game is part of it. Opinions and criticism are accepted. Personally, I have a fairly low tolerance for criticism of creating and managing the teams. It is an enormous amount of work, and we are all lucky that Sunyata is nicer than me (and, perhaps, that she doesn’t have the database password).

And last, if there WERE a Cabal, it would be hozn and I, because we DO have the database password.

I thought this was a totally reasonable question — I certainly don’t see why a team captain had to publicly blame his teammate for bringing it up privately. And though I would have booted the person who was late to join if I was in charge, I’m not in charge and I didn’t put in any work other than riding my bike. I also don’t think anyone can blame the Dark Cabal – well, except maybe AlanA – for its decision.

More importantly, and as someone who takes every “competition” way too seriously: Who cares?!

I’m pretty sure Rule 5 is in effect here.

The Rules are the rules. This isn’t ‘Nam. The Rules supersede any BAFS anarchy. Or so I was told by some other cabal.

I’d say it’s worth it. I joined because I was doing 90 miles a week anyway so why not, but now it’s more like 130. That’s like a 40% bonus just for clicking a few links and filling in some information.

But we didn’t get a real winter this year so who knows what it would be if we did.

I appreciate the kidding and I don’t know most of you–so I’m sorry if I’ve stepped on anyone’s toes. I wanted to know what happened. The explanation makes perfect sense and I understand the decision, even if I might not agree with it. It should be ok to ask a question without being told we’re whining.
