I confess! I noticed the 12th rider. Blame me.
I actually brought it to Sunyata’s attention before AlanA posted here. We discussed and she explained why she wasn’t going to “fix” it. And I “accepted” her decision. Like I had a choice???
That said, I will admit to being in the minority here. I understand the FS is all fun and games. I love it and have embraced my “inner Fred” (for those of you who aren’t racers/hard core roadies, a “Fred” is someone who isn’t a racer/hard core roadie and is generally meant as a derogatory term since so many racers/hard core roadies are elitist snobs with their noses so far up in the air that they block the sunlight … and yes, I used to be one of them way back in the day when I raced … but please know that I now use the term with love and affection). But I do think the one rule that should be inviolate is the number of people on a team. As someone who’s been a competitive athlete pretty much my whole life, that’s just me. FS is still a competition and even if we’re not taking “seriously,” I think there needs to be something that resembles “fair” and “right” about it.
OK … I feel better now. :p

Thanks for volunteering to do team assignments next year.

I talked to Rod at Thursday coffee at Vigilante and this subject came up, he accidentally allowed an extra team member into the team without realizing, and doesn’t know how to remove the extra member. I’m quite sure there was no malicious intent here. But, then again FS makes us all hyper-competitive and OCD, so… …Time for a Doping Scandal!
If you pull up the club on Strava (website or app), go to the list of members, you’re able to “remove” the extra member (either a pop-up “button” on the website on the right side of the member list, or by selecting the three dots to the right of their name on the app).

ParticipantI’m very competitive though a low achieving member of my team–but yeah, keeping teams to the same number of members seems pretty basic. I’m not going to try and fight city hall here. Mostly, I just wondered what happened.

ParticipantIt might help to remind everyone that this is a volunteer run game. It does not seem as though everyone appreciates the large amount of work that Sunyata and others put in to making the game work.
So, two things to do:
1) Volunteer to help out next year
2) Go ride your bike. Kicking someone off Team 5 isn’t going to help you catch Team 22.March 15, 2018 at 2:20 pm #1085500rcannon100
ParticipantAnyone who takes Freezing Saddles as a real competition – and is getting pissy about the number of riders – obviously did not play enough Calvinball. Its not a real competition. It could never be a real competition. You want a real competition? Go crash in an underground garage in Crystal City on Wednesday nights. Freezing Saddles is a goofy way for friends on the forum to endure the slings and arrows of Boreas. If you are attempting to school the volunteers on how they should run Freezing Saddles, can I suggest that there are lots of other competitive outlets where you might enjoy yelling at the refs more. Have you considered enrolling your kid in travel hockey?

I’ve been doing all these things, but it’s just not enough. Gotta get me a kid so I can scream at the refs and get some sweet #kidical points.

ParticipantWe most definitely appreciate all the hard work it takes to make Freezing Saddles happen. I don’t think asking a question negates that. And yeah, we are riding our bikes. Not the point.

So your way of “appreciating all the hard work” is to now go through and dislike the posts of the volunteers??? Just asking.

This is a goofy competition, besides, I propose a new rule that Rod Smith can do whatever he wants. If he wants 12 members he can do that, its Rod after all. I reserve the right to heckle and never let him live it down.
Props to all the FS volunteers who make this thing so awesome.

Kicking someone off Team 5 isn’t going to help you catch Team 22.I would like to think that enough of y’all know me well enough (even though this is just my second year playing FS) to know that I do appreciate all the work of all the volunteers who make Freezing Saddles happen. I realize it’s herding cats. And I’ve had to do the same kind of thing in the past (but not FS). I’ve run a bike team previously and was on the “governing board” for the regional racing district when it was USCF.
But I would also like to think that said volunteers are OK with people being able to express their opinions. And that folks consider that maybe those opinions might have some validity. And that they might actually be constructive.
In the end, I’m more than happy to live by whatever rules/decisions the powers that be make. And even if I wouldn’t agree with or would do differently myself, respect their decrees and proclamations. Their game, their rules. That’s fair. I realize it’s not a democracy.

You make it a point to dislike my post…so it’s all in good fun! Also, I didn’t dislike the “posts of the volunteers”–that’s an exaggeration. Thanks for the warm welcome!

Now I’m really confused–I found the thread that lists the volunteers and according to that, I didn’t dislike any posts made by volunteers. Perhaps there are more volunteers than listed there? If so, I don’t know how to find their names.
