Bob James needed to take a break from the huge miles to take care of family responsibilities. He’s still riding, but not as often. He’s also doing a lot of weightlifting (he used to be a competitive weightlifter) and swimming – shorter, more intensive workouts that he can better fit in with daily childcare duties for his young grandchildren. As you know, Bob is not the type to do a half-assed job at things. He didn’t feel comfortable trying to “sort of” participate in Freezing Saddles if he couldn’t give it his all.

Bob regrets he had to drop out of Freezing Saddles/Strava so abruptly, and he misses everyone here. He wants everyone to know how much he’s appreciated their friendship and support.

Hey, Rod, when is “finished”. I’ve been looking around this forum that I love so much – on the calendar, over here, FAQ – when is the last day?

I found it amusing that Bob was still in the top five for so long even weeks after he stopped riding for FS. Quite an amazing rider (as are you!).

If you talk to him, send him our best – and make him come to a HH or something. I know other people have been asking about him too.

Midnight March 19th. I’m glad to hear Bob is riding. I recruited him for our National Bike Challenge (NBC) team the first year of NBC. He was the top rider on the DC leaderboard and unaffiliated with a team. He joined Freezing Saddles the following winter, and became a regular on the forum and BAFS group rides. I totally get why he quit Strava, etc. It can become an obsession. Not for me though. I can stop anytime I want. :D

I don’t even see him on Strava at all. Hope he didn’t delete his account altogether! Wishing him the best, both on and off the bike.

Freezing Saddles ends on the last full day of winter. Spring starts at 12:15PM (EDT) on March 20.

Guys… let’s stop arguing. Freezing Saddles always ends on my birthday.

If March 20 is Judd’s birthday, then it has to be the last day of Freezing Saddles.
