They did not, so we are left with an air of mystery…

    Of course it was.

Second bridge south, that would be the one by the Glencarlyn bathroom? Think they’ll put up detour signs to the 4MR trail? If the ford there is flooded, you can take the trail that goes around the bathroom and comes out by the dog exercise area and take the narrow bridge with the most useless bollard in Arlington county to get back over to the W&OD.

Glen Carlyn is the 3rd bridge.
To bypass this one requires exiting immediately south of 50, going up almost to the neighborhood and then hard left back down to just before Glen Carlyn.

From the asphalt transition onto the boards, the first boards received substantial damage – no other parts of the bridge apparently damaged (like the rais if a tree had fallen on it). Easily supports the hypothesis that something attempted to drive OVER the bridge that should not have.

This morning that W&OD bridge over Four Mile Run was closed off with yellow caution tape with detour signs to the 4MRT (the good climb at Glencarlyn). Probably just trying to help with Kill Bill training.

Then there was the truck completely blocking the parking lot access there because they were going to paint and “you wouldn’t want anyone to get paint on themselves,” not that anyone was actively painting at 9 AM. Should have had cones or a warning sign at the top for the drive down from Harrison St.

Snark is far more fascinating than fact.

The bridge was open and clear early this evening. A number of boards had been replaced.
