At Gravelly now. People driving and parking all over the grass . Where is the USPP enforcement?

    Blue Angels flew by.

It was a zoo at Gravelly Point. Turns out the war on cars is over and the cars won. Cars were parking everywhere and driving on the trail to get there. Absolutely no USPP on site. Total abdication. WTF?

To my knowledge the Park Police don’t ticket for parking on the grass. That said, they should have been out there monitoring the trail and the like. For heaven’s sake, they can find time to monitor cyclists down at HP all the time!

I caught sight of the Blue Angels along the W&OD. Only saw them on one fly by.

I’ve seen them ticket cars parked in the grass median of the Gravelly Point parking lot designated as reserved for vehicles with boat trailers. There were cars pulled off the parkway in the grass and in every other location where cars could park.

    Total abdication by the USPP

I only saw them fly over once, around 6:23-6:25 pm. I couldn’t get a video since I was on a CaBi bike at the moment. They weren’t visible for long.

I think I heard them fly north later on, but I couldn’t see them on that pass. I thought they were going to fly over multiple times. I waited for them to pass by again but they never did.

I don’t care about the parking on the grass (lesser evil), but seriously, DO NOT DRIVE ON THE TRAIL!!! Given the chaos that occurs on the MVT, especially during the weekend, I’m very surprised that there wasn’t an accident. We’ve seen the consequence of people driving on trails (http://wjla.com/news/local/police-drunk-driver-speeds-for-5-miles-on-w-od-trail-hits-bicyclist-89556).

I swear, I tell people about the car-equivalent of Murphy’s Law: “If a car can fit somewhere, someone will eventually drive there.”

Especially if you’re not bringing repaving money with you. (I’m bitter because the FFX Co Pkway is being repaved again, and they never did find enough money to repave the whole trail even once in 30 years.) Scofflaw entitled drivers.
