ParticipantGood morning! Road conditions largely good. Here are some recommendations:
There is new sidewalk at the Fish Market to use. From there along Maine Ave, new pavement with a coned-off lane for peds/bikes. During the workday, that lane is sometimes blocked by construction equipment, so be aware. Past Arena Stage, at the beginning of M St. SW, there is a bit of pavement (concrete) work.
P St SW, in front of Ft. McNair, is a much calmer route to S Capitol and the ballpark. To get there, either turn off into the “Water St. parking lot” (next to the Spirit & Odyssey dinner cruise ships) and use the riverfront trail to P St, or go a block further and turn right at 4th St SW.
On the way back: Tour buses frequently park along the north side of Maine, from Arena Stage to the crosswalk at the Fish Market. If car traffic is light, it’s safe to take the lane. If not, many commuters use the sidewalk there.
Have fun! (Of course, the ball team has to do their part and beat the Mets, but they know that…)

ParticipantThanks for the Intel!
Being optimistic, if Nats can get to within 3 or 4 by Mets series, and at least take 2 out of 3…. we have a playoff race!
But 1 game at a time.

ParticipantI think the Nats have to sweep the Mets to get into the division race.

Hi. Will be biking with my 10 year old to Nats Park on Monday Anyone have an update on road and sidewalk conditions along DC waterfront with the construction going on down there?
We come across 14th street bridge and then head east along Maine Ave
Thanks
I go all the time and recently changed my route to avoid Maine Avenue entirely (Maine Ave and I had an unpleasantly close, short-lived relationship last fall).
Here: http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/847492401
14th St Bridge
Left over to Ohio Avenue
Left on Ohio towards Hains Point
Left at the stop at Buckeye Drive
Left at the sign for expressway (left here)
Go one block and get on the sidewalk on the right (at the telephone pole)
Cross the Chase bridge (great view of the construction; your 10-year-old will love it)
At the circle, go right down to 9th
Sort of straight/jog left to cross 9th and get on G St. eastbound (may need to walk to get across)
Straight on G to 4th (bike lanes)
Right on 4th all the way to P
Left on P to the ballpark
I cross straight at the walk signal at P & S Capitol onto the apron around the ballpark and then go right around the backside to get to the bike valet. This avoids the huge crowds on the north side of the park.September 6, 2015 at 6:33 pm #1037237Rootchopper
ParticipantI do this up until 4th. Instead of P St take a left on I Street. I Street across So Capitol Street (with crossing guards for safety) to First St. SE
Right on First. Continue straight to the ballpark and the Bike Valet. -
