Street view suggests that Crain Hwy will be like biking on a freeway. There will be wide shoulders except at intersections. You could fiddle with Google routing to get on the back roads as such:

That’s farther east than the roads I’m familiar with, but I am skeptical of Crain Hwy. I can tell you that after Crain Hwy joins with hwy5/Branch avenue through the Waldorf area it is not ok. That is not part of his proposed ride, I’m just guessing it might be much of the same, could be wrong. If it’s the same kind of road all the way through there are probably decent enough shoulders but intersections are not designed with bikes in mind, drivers don’t expect to see you there, and 75+mph speeds are the norm.
