Does anyone still make a rigid steel MTB? I think they are all aluminum and suspensiony now.
I ride a dinosaur.
Au contraire, mon ami. Walmart has the hookup!

And they are even nice enough to provide an exhaustive list of this bike’s amazing features:
Steel Frame
Thumb Shifters
Caliper Brakes

You’re right at the low end, the suspension adds a lot of cheap bling and sells better. (Not that all suspension bikes are cheap–far from it–but it’s getting pretty hard to find a cheaper bike that doesn’t have a front suspension.) For rigid you’re looking at more of a specialty item so you’ll pay more of a specialty price. E.g., take a look at the Surley Troll.
Edit to acknowledge that I was not aware that you could get as low as the $100 wal-mart bike listed above, so it is actually possible to hit a price point that doesn’t have a suspension.

Aw yeah!
Half mantis, half eagle, and all AWESOME for only $119! Rock!
Those are some truly amazing features! It doesn’t say “wheels” though. I saw a car advertised much like that once that had “windows” as a feature.

Why does anyone want a suspension if you don’t go offroad?

I’m pretty sure that lacing my own wheels out of a couple of hula hoops and some coat hangers and then duct taping them to a lawn chair would be a safer and more reliable option than a $100 Wallybike.

Ah ha! I forgot to look at Schwinn. The $300 bike is eternal!

ParticipantSince we’re talking equivalencies, we should also examine price. $300 in 1992 is worth almost $500 today. So, can you get a better or worse bike today for the same price point?

Well to compare apples to trout or something, the Giant Revel looks like it would be the most similar of their models, and it’s $525.

ParticipantI do miss my steel FUJI Hybrid. It was way under sized – and if I had a steel frame in my size I am sure it would weigh 500 lbs. A solid and smooth ride it wuz. Well, off to the aLuMiNnNnNnNNUmb frame.

True, then I’d have to duct tape a flag to the chair…
