First loser! Well, first place was way off the front and I wasn’t going to catch him on a wide open course like that. Time to buy a CX bike!
Oh, and I would have done the 4/5, but I had stuff going on in the afternoon!
Regardless of your bike or schedule, aren’t you a bit of a sang-bagger as a Cat 2 racing in a Cat 5 race or even the 4/5 race?

My USA Cycling license says I’m a Cat 5 on the Road, Track and in Cyclocross. I can’t race in anything else until I get enough experience doing 10 races!

You can cat up before 10 races if you are on the podium. I know someone who submitted for upgrade after 6 (and was granted) and I don’t think he even had podium finishes (but he had placed well). I will try submitting after 6 or 7 races (road) if I can hold up the top-10 streak. Would be nice to finally do better than 4th for at least one race, though!
Maybe I will try to cat up (to 4) for ‘cross next year too. But I will focus on road first.

My mistake. I was fooled by CrossResults.com profile linked to the results for the Bikentic race. http://www.crossresults.com/racer/15127 It is messed up showing you as a Cat 2 racer with 40 plus races. They are mixing up your results with another Tim Kelly, 46 from Boise Idaho. Maybe you should e-mail CrossResults (part of Bike Reg) and ask them to correct it before more jackballs falsely accuse you of being a sandbagger.
I think this is your real record: http://www.usacycling.org/results/?compid=431901
This is his: https://usacycling.org/results/?compid=212853.In the past, I was opposed to the rules retarding people’s desires to upgrade, but now agree with the rules a lot more. Finishing ten races before a 5 to 4 upgraded is totally sensible unless you are just silly faster than everyone else race after race. Like Hozn suggested, when you get your tenth race finished, ask for a jump to 3 instead of just to 4 if u have enough points. You need just 10 points which I think you already have. http://www.usacycling.org/cyclo-cross-category-upgrade-guidelines.htm

ParticipantWait, that wasn’t what I was suggesting
Can you do that [skip cat 4]? I would have assumed you need to earn those 4->3 points in cat 4 races (?)

I’ll just try to have more faith in humanity.

And hope I become less jackballish.
