Hi, all. If you’re reading this you probably know that a daily part of my life is working to make the Washington area a better place for others to ride. I’d really appreciate your help with that work. Bikefest is the Washington Area Bicyclist Association’s annual fundraiser, and with the cancellation of BikeDC, making Bikefest a big success this year is especially important.

WABA, for whom I serve as President, is – without a doubt – the most kickass cycling advocacy organization east of the Mississippi.* I am so proud of the work our fantastic staff does, and they deserve the support not just of everyone who rides a bike in the Washington area, but of everyone who uses our streets. I can promise you that every dollar you give is spent carefully, with the maximum possible impact.

And let’s be clear – this is the Washington *Area* Bicyclist Association. WABA works hard around the region, from Fairfax to Prince George’s County. Just tonight I was at a meeting of regional advocates, trying to figure out how we could better improve the whole region. So no “oh, that’s a DC thing” excuses.

So please join me at Bikefest. It’s a great party. $45 for members ($55 for non-members). Drinks, buffet, table games, and auction items. Same fantastic location as last year, in the North Hall of Eastern Market. I’m sure that some of the forum folks that were there last year can offer their reviews.

Ready to go? Tell us that you’re coming, and get your tickets in advance. (And please, *do* get your tickets – this sells out every year, and our bouncers, man, they act like they don’t even know me, so I’m not sure I’ll be able to help you out at the door.)

    Tickets – https://org.salsalabs.com/o/451/p/salsa/event/common/public/?event_KEY=79639

    More details – http://www.waba.org/blog/2013/04/bikefest-is-coming-heres-why-you-should-attend/

Finally? Yes. Yes you *should* share this event.

    With very sincere thanks –

    Mark

*And probably west, too, but those Portland people get itchy.

There’s a way to go, have a good time, and keep your hands in appropriate places — volunteer.

Bike Fest: An Evening’s Entertainment for Cheap

For $45 (WABA member discounted ticket) you get:

Dinner — Chipotle Buffet: Tacos or Taco Salad AND dessert

Drinks — Not just one but TWO drink tickets! I mean come on, how many do you really want?

Games — No, not Hide and Seek, Casino Games!

Music — Live, as in real people playing real instruments.

Raffles — Someone has to win, it could be you.

Legit casino games (as in, for real money and requiring a temporary gambling license), or mock casino games? If I’m going to spend $45 to get into this gig, I better be able to lose my life savings at the blackjack table as well.

You’re the most frustrating attendee ever! If you click on the link, which has been provided no less than three times in this thread, you’ll see the invite even says, “REAL casino games…” On the plus side, it makes me feel better to know I’m not the only person you ignore… ;-)

After several drinks, and I’ll buy them for you, will you care?

Everything donated goes to improve the biking experience in this area!!!!!!!!!

Ha! TwoWheelsDC doesn’t drink, so that won’t work… (But I do, feel free to send them my way! And no, I don’t care, I think it’s a great cause and look forward to losing our joint checking account in the name of supporting DC area cycling!)

Fantastic time last night! Thanks to all of you who volunteered/worked the event to make it such a great evening! I think TwoWheelsDC is a little upset he didn’t win any of the raffles… but he’ll be back on the forum soon enough!
