Okay, here’s the post you’ve all been waiting for!

Next week, next Monday and Wednesday we’re having our annual Lights for Bikes Giveaway and we need volunteers!

Monday, 11/4, we’ll be at the intersection of Lynn St, Lee Highway and the Custis Trail in Rosslyn. We’ll be setting up on the NW corner of the intersection in the large grassy area (instead of on the NE corner by the I-66 off ramp). We’ll plan to be there around 5pm and go until about 7ish or so. We need volunteers from the forum to help pass out lights and reflective gear. We’ll need some folks standing in the old spot (on the NE corner) flagging down people to tell them to come across if they want something.

Wednesday, 11/6, we’ll be at the intersection of Columbia Pike and the W&OD Trail. We’ll do it the same time, 5-7ish. We’ll have the Washington Lee Bike Club joining us for part of it too!

Everyone is welcome to come and help pass out goodies and then grab some extras to outfit any ninjas you may see on the trail. Just drop a quick post here if you plan on coming so we generally have an idea of how many people to expect!

    Did I forget anything?

Have fun. Unfortunately I can’t help out this year since I’ll be traveling. :(

For those of you handing out lights on Monday, once you are done, just ride up the little hill to Courthouse and join the Arlington Bicycle Advisory Committee meeting at 2100 Clarendon. All welcome, and we’d love to see you and hear how the light giveaway went.

I’ll help on Monday if people are still there when I go by (generally that’s pretty close to 7pm)

I’ll be there for both because I love pie so much.

    P.S. But probably not Wednesday.:(

We’ve found these things work best when it’s dark out.

That occurs in the morning also.

Between higher ridership in the afternoon’s and the fact that we think more people are willing to help in the evenings when they aren’t in a rush to work, we’ve generally done these in the PM. That being said, if people feel strongly that a morning event would be helpful and would be willing to volunteer, then we’d consider it!

I would volunteer for the morning, but it would need to be early, say 6-7. Out of curiosity, how is there more riding in the afternoon? Don’t people usually go both directions?

Turns out that some people ride bikes, but not to work.
