The days are getting shorter, and it won’t be long (won’t be long) til winter comes…

So it’s time for BikeArlington’s annual Lights for Bikes Giveaway, and we can’t do it without you!

On Monday, 11/3, we’ll be set up at the Bikeometer in Rosslyn, near the intersection of Lynn St, Lee Highway and the Custis. We’ll be there from 5pm until 7pm or so. Volunteers can help us pass out lights and reflective goodies and flag down folks from across the street, too.

On Thursday, 11/6 we’ll head to the intersection of Columbia Pike and the W&OD Trail from 5pm to 7. We’ll be on the north side of the intersection, passing out more reflective goodies and lights.

It’s always a fun event, and folks from the forum really make it great, so we’re looking forward to seeing you guys next week. Leave a post below if you’re able to stop by so we know how many folks to expect. And be sure to wave hi if ya see us!

After Monday’s give-away I took a handful of lights and leg bands with me to give away on my evening rides. Tuesday night I stopped for anyone that was walking/running/riding in my direction without some sort of reflective item or light. I handed out 10 sets of lights and leg bands to all kinds of folks. I simply told them that I was volunteering for BA and we wanted everyone to be safe on the trails at night. The response was awesome, plus it got me to slow down and talk to folks which was a bonus. It’s easy to forget that those people we pass everyday and just like you and me (minus the ridiculous accent). It made my night and I plan to do it again with my remaining stash….. I think everyone should try this, it’s a great community builder!

I’ve been secretly hoping someone is going to bring BA lights to FMCC II tomorrow.

I thought I’d up my chances by sharing that hope with others.

Have you noticed how some folks take a few seconds to comprehend that you are simply giving them a free light with no strings? They start out with a “?!” but end up with a “!”

I had someone ask me what was wrong with the light. :) My answer was it was in my backpack and not lighting the way for a fellow trail user but other than that it was new.

I’m now 100% certain I’ll be able to help out at the Columbia Pike light event tomorrow. Will be there around 5 p.m.

I’ll try to be there at Columbia Pike and the W&OD Trail, Thursday, November 13, although I may not be there the full shift from 5pm-7pm.

I might have to beg off if the weather is wet. I have the kiddos tonight and we were all planing to ride down and work but they don’t have cold wet riding gear. Weather report does not sound to good.

Admittedly, the crowd thinned when the rain started.

Tried, but work wouldn’t let me, sorry… Were you able to reach & teach many ninjas?

How many were W&OD commuters and how many were local Columbia Pike travelers?
