ParticipantThe bike lane will go all the way to Wakefield once the work is done. That is why the bump out was removed.

ParticipantTraffic alert for anyone using Fairfax Drive westbound to connect to the Custis Trail: today (as of 11:30 this morning) one lane of Fairfax Drive was closed off approaching the Glebe Road intersection, and construction crews were periodicially closing off westbound Fairfax Drive entirely for road work. I do not know if this will continue into the evening, but you may want to detour around that section of Fairfax Drive.
I posted this here since it is somewhat related to the construction going on.

ParticipantI hope it’s to repave that section of gravel traps they so conveniently left in the cycling lane. Pretty sure Dread saw a guy go ass over head there last week.

That guy was trying to get on the sidewalk at Wakefield to get to the Custis. He used the crosswalk from the hotel and hit the lip on the new curb cut.

Ouch! Well regardless, they need to pave that section!

ParticipantFairfax Drive is now freshly paved from Glebe to Wakefield, but no lane markings yet. I’ll miss those potholes in the crosswalk across Wakefield.
In addition to the ramp over the temporary sewer pipe on the connector trail to the Custis, there is a yellow fire hose crossing the trail just west of Wakefield. (I understand it was there this more and remained so in the evening. Westbound, there is no warning for this hazard, while eastbound there is a detour onto the path just on the other side of the beaver pond. My recommendation is to ignore the detour and take the regular trail dismounting across the obstacle.

Same this morning, although it looks like progress is being made. I’m guessing they will start working on the south side next.

ParticipantIt’s all paved and lined today. The hose is off the connector trail as well. Unfortunately, the whoop-di-do doesn’t have sufficient slope to catch significant air.:p

ParticipantJust walked through there (I go on walks during my breaks) and saw that:
- the bike lane is finished
- construction is clear around the intersection (the whoop-di-do still has equipment)
- the transition between pavement and concrete is smooth (save for a textured section for blind pedestrians)
- (related but just a block away) now that they removed the slip lane for people turning right from westbound Fairfax onto northbound Glebe, the bike lane is now continuous up to the light and is dashed for vehicles moving into the right-turn-only lane (if my explanation sucks, basically the westbound bike lane now resembles the eastbound bike lane at Fairfax/Glebe).
Just be careful near the transition as there is a 10-15 foot section of the sidewalk just west of it that is narrower with a 4-5 inch drop on either side near some equipment/control/whatever boxes.

ParticipantMay have been mentioned elsewhere, but the line of cars parking in the bike lane is back. They’re waiting to get into the Marymount parking lot.
Anyone know if Marymount is in session next week?
Thanks!

ParticipantI really do like what they did to this section, but I’ve run into issues with cars parked in the lane waiting to pick up Marymount students. The last time this happened I decided to ask the person to move their car as it’s in the bike lane. She pointed out that there was a sign back about 10 feet indicating that the bike lane ended. So I go back and sure enough, she’s correct. It’s clearly left over from when the bike lane actually DID end there. But now that it’s extended it would be a great idea to take down that sign and paint a cool bike lane person on the asphalt, or whatever they’re called. Any advice on where to go to propose this?
