Hopefully it would be less disproportional than the fee at Great Falls National Park where a 4,300 pound CO2 and pollutant emitting vehicle with two people riding in it costs less than 2 cyclists pay.

…People pay to enter Great Falls on a bike?

Are you thinking of the C&O at Great Falls, which is on the other side of the river?

That’s standard for all NPS properties. Shenandoah is just as asinine: $15 for a clown car with as many people as you can shove into it, $8 per person without a car. Because car infrastructure saves them money. Or something.

Agree, but… $30 for an annual pass is the way to go.

Discrepency still holds. My $30 annual fee will get me and 7 friends in the park in my minivan, or me and 3 friends on bikes. Because cars. If I had one of those 15 passenger vans, then I could really cash in.

You can skip the tolls by taking the “Carriage Road” on the VA side. On the MD side, there’s obviously the towpath and Burma Road.

The real way to go is turn 62 and buy a Golden Eagle pass for $10, which gives free admission to all national parks until you croak. After all, old people vote.

I meant the one right down the road in Great Falls VA (where I work). Granted, I’ve never ridden a road bike in, but I’ve ridden a MTB in many times and can’t remember ever paying anything.

I’m not 62 yet, but I am old enough to remember when all national parks had free admission for everyone.

    But you need 14 friends.

Yeah, agreed, you don’t have to pay to ride a MTB into the park. And I have no idea why someone would ride a road bike in; riding on Georgetown or Old Dominion sounds ill advised.

I’ve done it. At rush hour. It sorta sucks.

I actually don’t mind paying something, as I appreciate the parks and I know that NPS is chronically underfunded. I just think their fee schedule is insane.
